More Details Pop Up For Warlord’s Fantasy Game, Erehwon
November 26, 2018 by brennon
Last week we talked about the teasers that came out from Warlord Games for Warlords of Erehwon. This new Fantasy game looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, utilising mechanics that we've seen in Bolt Action and Beyond The Gates Of Antares.
As we mentioned last time, the miniatures to begin with look like they're being drawn from the Wargames Factory line-up that they snapped up a few years ago. Here you can see the Orc Warband and the Skeleton Warriors below which were shown in the teaser videos.
The website simply leads to a holding page for now but it looks like we're going to get some serious depth thrown into this world. A few more little bits and pieces came out about the game over the last few days too.
There will be a Rulebook for the game which will be focused on delivering quick and easy Fantasy games using a reasonably sized force of Fantasy figures but nothing to the scale of a ranked mass battle game.
The game will use the dice bad system we've seen in Warlord's other games which is a great tactical mechanic in of itself where you can never truly plan when you're going to get to act. The game itself will also be d10 based which adds for a lot more diversity in the rules.
You will also have rules for a massive array of different factions including Barbarians, Beastmen, Dwarves, Elves, Gnolls, Goblins, Halflings, Knights, Olympians, Orcs, Undead and finally Monsters which can be dropped into all manner of different warbands.
Watch out for more on this game as we know it but it's neat that we're seeing another Fantasy game hitting the tabletop!
What do you think of the news now we know more?

Will be looking at the skeleton army.
I like what I see.
I’ll be grabbing the rules, Rick’s never written a bad game and I’m interested to see how Fantares runs.
Hopefully you’ll be able to buy them as a stand alone
Not sure about him not doing a bad game. Did you ever try and play 1644?
Given that all the rest of his works that I’ve played have been excellent
if they launch it like antares then the rules will be separate, and no I never played 1644, but I’ve just read the reviews and now I need to own it
Its OK its just a quick rehash of early wfb. I think I have a copy somewhere. If so you can have it
I think the figures look rather dated and uninteresting, but Fantasy rules using Bolt Action mechanics could be something. My interest is certainly there…
If it lets use use minis we already own from other ranges, such as KoW guys, on square or round bases then I’m up for giving it a go. Especially if it lets us bring in characterful minis and monsters, not just grunts.
I don’t see why not. The old Wargames Factory minis shouldn’t have anything super-specialised in there – nothing you won’t already find in your favourite range of orcs or skellies (or your existing collection).
I wonder if warlord are going to support the range with model releases. Given it’s Warlord I imagine they will, but I wonder on the style of the models.
Warlord already has minis that fit the bill for about half of the factions/races in the list, but they do have a few gaps, plus I imagine they will be doing metal ‘hero’ minis and such. I just hope that it’s not abandoned after 9 months like project z seems to have been…
At least there isnt a scarcity of fantasy figures out there
Im not keen on the figures but with a good few WHFB lying around im sure this will not be a problem. The idea of a D10 game sounds good and the dice bag mech is always a favourite, i look forward to this.
With SAGA doing a fantasy version it looks like this genre is getting a new look from several different companies.
I like the concept, as there is always room for a new fantasy rule set.
However, those orcs are pretty much junk. They are horrible. The skeletons are nice, but then again how can you mess that up.
I will buy the rule set. However, its obviously just an excuse to try and squeeze some more money out of those out of date molds they picked up from war factory. They did the same thing with Project Z. It was just a way of squeezing out some money. That’s all this is as well.
That’s going Nowhere fast … 😉
I kind of like the orcs dressed in medieval like armour instead of whatever the heck GW’s designers think creatures wear.
Hehe…thanks for that I would have never seen that with out the tip-off. 😉
Oh man, does this looks AWESOME!
Yeah, I wont buy WF figs. I’ve always hated the way they’re sculpted. That being said, there’s tons out there that fit the bill. Orcs, Elves, Barbarians, Gnolls, and Humans from Northstar for sure. Guessing that’s NOT a coincidence. It’d be great to even see some collaboration there.
WHEN!?!?
one feature of HIPS plastic miniatures production is that the moulds often are made in milled steel, which is nigh-on insetructible. Which means that whomever has the moulds in hand can theoretically crank out those “dated” minis indefinitely, inflicting them upon an unforgivning world years after they were considered “old school”. Mind you, the WGF ORcs aren’t all that old, they were introduced in 2010. I guess the price will be a major factor in their success (or lack of). The skeletons are fine though, as long as they stick to the second edition ones, with the thicker bones. The… Read more »
I’ve been looking at the blood dawn 15mm recently and they might do or maybe I could use my multi based 10mm stuff for it.
So, where’s Fafhrd?
I wonder if some of the human races will just be lifted from their existing historicals. I have to say although I probably won’t play the game itself I can see me picking up some of these to use in some of my RPGs.
I’ve always felt that bolt action was my favorite rule set, but I love lord of the rings. Since I already have a ton of lotr figures, I’ll be ready to play as soon as I get the book!
When is expected to release? Q1 of 2019?
Great news and I definitely want to hear more about it! I hope that we will also see new models for the game and not only those recycled ones from WGF.
@Ontabletop staff: I think there is a typo within the article: “The game will use the dice bad system”
I think it should be “The game will use the dice ba’g’ system” 🙂 😉 …
Old Wargames Factory orcs, and looks like the skeletons as well. The skeletons are super delicate, if they’re the same ones. I know they did a second round of them, but they weren’t much better.
This has definitely got my interest. As others I don’t like the WGF orcs.
I’m hoping these rules fit easily with the old WFB campaigns(McDeath, Bloodbath at Orcs Drift, etc), and also that we see new campaigns in the same vein.
McDeath is great little campaign especially if you remember the 80’s miners strikes and this new game seems to be similar sized to the original wfb
