What Monsters Lurk in the Dragon’s Maze?
April 17, 2013 by dracs
Today we got some new preview of five common cards, one for each of the mana colours, which will be appearing in the Dragon's Maze set.
At 6 mana these are fairly expensive to cast. They have fairly decent stats and, for the most part, can take and deal a lot of damage. But the real draw comes from the bonuses they give your multicoloured creatures. In the Ravnica set we have seen a lot of multicolours, so these will be a cool new tactic for you to take into consideration when assembling your deck.
Are any of these going to appear in your decks? Can you think of a good combo to use them in?

Deathtouch sounds brutal and to me sounds a tad unbalanced compared to the others? (Too strong, but can’t think of a better word)
6 mana is far to much and wont see play in tournaments and will only see kitchen tables, so don’t worry about it.
But the kitchen table is literally where I play! lol
I play both, but six mana is hard to get with most colors other then green with how fast Standard is right now since you’ll die on turn five.
They have a decent place in Modern Pauper tournaments though. Pauper are all common tournaments, Peasant is similar but allows for up to five uncommon cards.
Is that abomination Lavos?
None of these five cards really impress me but that might be because I have seen so powerful cards around other TCGs/CCGs. Then again not even in MtG these are particulary good compared to they high mana cost.
Am I dreaming, or there’s a power creep/cost creep going on ?
if they were uncommon or rare the cost would have been dropped down to 5 mana and 4 mana. You are far better off with the Rare Legendaries like Emmara Tandris who will keep all your token creatures alive. Although she costs 7 mana compared to 6, green has no problem getting that sort of mana out by turn four in the current Standard game. For more common Rare drops, red has an awesome creature called Pyrewild Shaman that will see a lot of play if you like playing Gruul. White has Wake the Reflections a sorcery that lets you… Read more »
One card I am looking forward to in my old white/ black vampire deck is Blood Baron of Vizkopa. He will also go great in a Orzhov deck with how much life you gain when you Extort. He also goes really well in a Modern deck with Serra Ascendant.
I just saw Ætherling, I have to say you will be seeing a lot of those popping up if Morphling was any indication of how powerful a card like that can be, in right now Unblockable is awesome.
less then 40 cards left to be spoiled and so far Blue/ Green, White Green, Red/ Green and Black/white are my favorite guilds.
Dragon Maze has been fully spoiled. While most of the mono colour cards are rather meh, the Artifact cycle is pathetic and all but one land card is just reprinted from the previous two sets, the multicoloured cards (including split cards, not just the gold cards) really shine this time around. Unflinching Courage, and Tithe Drinker, Personal favorites Debt to the Deathless and Gaze of Granite (Gaze of Granite is pushed to help destroy the token scene created by populate)
