Micro Art Studio Roll Out The Welcome Mat for Infinity’s District 5
August 31, 2014 by dracs
Micro Art Studio have released an awesome war game mat to help set up your table to bring your Infinity games to District 5.
We got to see this mat up close on a previous episode of the Weekender and found it to be of a really high quality. There is plenty of detail going on, but not so much that it would detract from any terrain you might place on it.
The mat is made of polyester and rubber, meaning the surface image is crisp and well designed, while the grippy underside will stop it sliding around the table top.
Mats like these are perfect for creating an awesome set up for your gaming. This mat is perfect for larger games of Infinity, as well as many other scifi games. Though it doesn't quite look grim enough for Warhammer 40,000, the addition of appropriate terrain, in combination with this mat, should help you to establish a good urban environment for your battles to rage across.
What do you think of terrain mats like this?

Meh not really a fan of the design on the mat. It really restricts where you can place scenery which will lead to repetitive games. I like the mats that don’t have roads better.
Not really a fan of having fixed roads on playing mats, but its not that hard to model things to cover parts of the roads for more variation. But whats puts an otherwise nice mat into the no buy category for me are all those square/rectangle areas where MAS buildings fit. If i dont put something there to cover them there will just be a weird identical rectangles in the middle of a walkway on multiple places.
They should have just left them of….
Actually it looks great, a really nice mat that has all the elements needed for a nice game.
I do not think that either the road or the “suggested building areas” will prove an issue if one wants to alter the mats layout.
Nice mat, indeed. But I much prefer larger boards with some neutral paint/flock/grass/concrete/whatever since their patterns won’t interfere with the terrain on it.
I have mats with roads on them and don’t find it an issue to lay terrain across a road.
I think this mat will go well with the Op Icestorm set I have on order, so I will go ahead and order one. Although, I usually prefer my playing surfaces more modular so that I can chop and change for different scenarios.
Looks good hopefully they will bring out a range to vary the look of the city being fought in.
Looking really good. Remember it is just a layout and as @redben pointed out why not put terrain on a road?
I would prefer a mat I can lay down and road sections I place myself.
I like the roads, at least they’re not just a boring cross. Anyway, one of these plus my huge box of Mantic scenery bits – hello Megacity1 🙂
Looks pretty cool. Streets that run into my buildings still looks better than dark stained hardwood running into my buildings.
Also great 4×4′ sci-fi mat is TricCity from gamemat.eu http://www.gamemat.eu/4×4-g-mats.html
They start sales next week
cheers
Does anyone supply plain mats or mats a basic grassland/desert/battlefield/space design?
Hi Kane,
http://www.gamemat.eu/4×4-g-mats.html has just plain grass or wastelands (close to desert style)
