Micro Art Make a Police Bust of Commander Vimes
September 12, 2014 by dracs
Hooray! More Discworld! Micro Art Studio have come out with another bust of the famous fantasy characters, this time capturing the likeness of the Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, His Grace the Duke of Ankh, Sir Samuel Vimes.
The cynical watchman has always been a favourite of mine from the series, and Micro Art have done a fantastic job at capturing the style of Paul Kidby's art of the character.
It's the little touches, like the swamp dragon he's using to light his cigar, that I think make the character really stand out.
This bust is a fantastic addition to Micro Art's Discworld range, and should be the perfect painting project for any Discworld fan. I have a bunch of the 28mm Discworld sculpts and they are all top notch, and this bust, being of a much larger scale, gets to show off even more detail when capturing the character's likeness.
Are you a Discworld fan? What character do you most want to see a bust of?

I’ve always imagined him a bit more… portly!
Although from WikiPedia…
“He first appeared in the novel Guards! Guards!. While no detailed description of his physical appearance shows up in any of the Discworld novels, Pratchett says in the companion work, The Art of Discworld, that he has always imagined Vimes as a younger, slightly bulkier version of late British actor Pete Postlethwaite. Artist Paul Kidby, who has collaborated with Pratchett on several works, portrays him as resembling Clint Eastwood.”
Guess they’ve nailed it then.. I’m off to re-shoot multiple reels of my mental images of various books he’s appeared in.
