Mercs & Outcasts Come To The Dark Streets Of Necromunda
September 20, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop has previewed what's new for Warhammer 40,000 but they have also turned their attention to the Underhive and Necromunda. The Book Of The Outcast is coming soon alongside a new set of plastic miniatures to represent outcasts and mercenaries.

The miniatures themselves have no real affiliation to any of the Houses but they could be used to "fill in the blanks" with dregs and wastrels who you can throw into the line of fire without a care in the world. They look like the small bands of ruffians who are just trying to make their way in the Underhive.
They are armed with all manner of different weapons and should be a nice way to add some more custom elements to your gang. They could also be banded together to create an entire gang of outcasts if you liked.

As mentioned above, I think these would be great when either built as they are or combined with existing kits. I reckon you could bolt on some bits and pieces from the other faction sets to make them fit into your gang if you like.
Book Of The Outcast
The rules for making an outcast gang are going to be included as part of the new Book Of The Outcast that is also on the way from Games Workshop.
Book Of The Outcast // Necromunda
This will contain rules, scenarios, lore and more. You'll also notice a few named characters on the front of the book there too. You'll find all manner of extra rules for using them within its pages too. A neat idea for those who want to step away from the normal Houses that see play in Necromunda.
Underhive Market Terrain
As well as the new miniatures and the new book, you'll also be able to pick up a bunch of scatter terrain for making your own Underhive Market.
Underhive Market Box // Necromunda
Skirmish games like Necromunda are made all the better with the application of lots of scatter terrain. This is terrain that you can hide behind or ambush your foes from within. It also helps build up the story on the tabletop and could be used to mark scenario objectives too.
Underhive Market Scene // Necromunda
Mix this with some of the other big plastic kits from Games Workshop and you'd have a solid-looking tabletop. Nothing looks overly Necromunda either so you could possibly find a way to introduce this into other games too.
It is neat to see more from Necromunda and I would say that the game is incredibly well supported now. I reckon you could get lost down a massive hobby rabbit hole with Necromunda at the moment, especially with options from Forge World too.
Would you like the idea of playing as Outcasts in Necromunda?

Those miniatures look really good as does that terrain.
Nice I wonder If their market rat burgers are any good ?
Soylent Green!
? both Lol.
Make good cultists as well
Wow. I love these. The outcasts look great and the terrain is terrific
To me they seem a little plain, but then I’ve never been one for the whole Necromunda look.
I didn’t know Games Workshop are doing miniatures and terrain for Stargrave.
I like the look of both the miniatures and the market, and I may pick them up depending on price and how much you get in the box.
I much prefer the official NorthStar plastics for Stargrave (plus they are going to be a lot cheaper). For some reason I don’t thing the whole “grimdark” thing works for Stargrave (which is a more late 70s/early 80s sci-fi aesthetic going on the artwork). When playing “non GW” games I always like to see what the other guys are offering (rather than letting GW mini dominate the WHOLE hobby). Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the GW minis for Necromunda (other than the price), but I also like to support the little guys who hopefully will continue to develop and… Read more »
This is right up my street (pun intended). I am really looking forward to these.
And having had a second look, the scenery would fit well with Fallout Wasteland Warfare too.
Not too keen on the minis since I’m a little overloaded with things to paint, but I love the post-apocalyptic market!
I don’t think the Outcast ganger minis are up to GW’s usual standard (compared to the other gangs miniatures), HOWEVER I do think they will be extremely useful for kitbashing your “normal” Juves for the game (I noticed bodies with long coats for your Delaques, Belt Cloth for your Orlocks, Tattered look for your Cawdor and finally one that looks like it would do for Goliaths). GW have done another “news item” as to the contents of the next rule book (yet another one….sigh), the major item in there looks to be a new narrative campaign (where you are building… Read more »
A little generic, but these fellows have the potential to be a great base kit for converting genestealer and chaos cultists out of, or a number of other potential uses. I kinda wish there was some more variety in the arm and torso options though.
