Meet The Mercator Nautica Of Necromunda’s Underhive
March 5, 2021 by brennon
Venturing into the Underhive, Games Workshop has been taking a peek at some new characters getting added into the world of Necromunda. This time around, their team looked at the Mercator Nautica.

The Mercator Nautica control all of the water down in the Underhive and if you want to get your hands on the fresh stuff then you'll need to go through them. For that reason, a lot of gangs have been getting involved with them and making pacts.
The three miniatures that you see here included the Master Nautican, a Syphonite, and a Subnautican. The Subnautican that you see on the right-hand side is one of the hefty-looking divers who keep the reservoirs going down in the darkness. Very Bioshock.
Interestingly, the Syphonites are also fairly dangerous too. They carry staffs that can siphon the water from their victims. If you see desiccated husks of gangs around then place then you'll probably want to watch out for a Subnautican nearby as well.
I really like these miniatures and its another neat look at the varied citizens of the grimdark future that we don't often get to see.
Are you going to be snapping these up when they get released?

Pretty cool looking, but Im afraid, it will be Forgeworld.
Of course, we are probably looking at about £45 for those three, enough for two boxes of gangers. I’ve had the slave gang in my basket for months but have still not committed when I can get more for less.
Like the water sellers of Arakeen.
Love the armoured suit probably similar to the ship workers suit the mechanicus/marines altered into terminator suits.
Those look really good.
Still waiting for my Spyrers. Come on GW, I’ll even pay Forgeworld prices for em
I love the look of these guys- very Bioshock or Dune! And also pretty horrifying if you think about HOW they control the water down in the Underhive (those syringes on the Syphonite aren’t just for show)
Only problem is (if I remember right) that the full “band” has two of the Subnauticans in it (so it would be nice if FW did an extra mini for you to build up the force to full strength). Actually this set (and the earlier Slaver Guild pack) are some of the more reasonably priced offerings from FW (the Slaver Guild was £45 for 4 minis). I do feel the Master Nautican and Syphonite are a bit Age of Sigmar influenced (compared to the artwork) what with the full flowing robes and the weird bone like appendages on the Syphonite… Read more »
Good to know. Thanks
do they make up a gang on their own, or are they like hired guns to add to an existing gang?
They are like a Hired Gun to an existing gang (bringing advantages and disadvantages). They can take to the tabletop (either in full, or more normally in part). Some gangs have an “affinity” to certain guilds, so those advantages and disadvantages are magnified (sometimes to game breaking point…cough…Van Saars and Promethius Guild…cough).
That big robot thingy looks cool. I do want to like those two humanoids, but I can’t help but feel that they are overburdened with stuff they can’t possibly carry (never mind be anything other than a sitting duck in combat). It’s such a shame that it is next to impossible to get into the game without having to buy all of the supplements. At least it feels like that as every gang now has their own book as well as a ‘special’ version for more of their kind, because they somehow couldn’t fit them in the original clan book… Read more »
