Menhir Take Their Fantasy Champions Around the World
July 21, 2014 by dracs
Menhir Games are looking for feedback on their draft for the upcoming Kickstarter which they hope will give them the funding to create four new fantasy champions based on cultures around the world.
The plan is to gain the funds to create four distinct fantasy character that will be sculpted in pewter, each of which is based upon a specific historic culture; a Mayan Lizardman, a Central Asian Orc, a Mesopotamian Elf, and an Indian Rakshasa.
Beyond these four, eight more models will become available through stretch goals, with the possibility of a thirteenth Kickstarter exclusive model.
Personally, I think that this is a really good idea as, other than the Lizardman, these are each unique takes upon familiar fantasy figures. The designs each have a lot of individual character, so that they could easily be used as heroes in a fantasy RPG.
What are your thoughts on these? Are there any historic cultures you would like to see fantasy minis for?
Thanks to vondrasky for letting us know about this.
Thanks Sam!
I’m looking into buying a few of those Orcs for Warmachine to use them as Bloodgorgers, hopefully with the stretch goals they will have multiple parts and possibility.
I’d be happy to see all the glorious fantasy races placed in the one historical setting, usually avoided by the developers: the pre-historical. In my opinion this would be refreshing and will give more sense to shamanistic magic, calling the fire out of the sky, and will give a lot of gods for the characters to worship. E.g. the pond god, god of heavy rain, etc. Also the pop-cultural Aztek/Mayan would be nice as well, however it’d be too niche I suppose.
Liking what I see. The Sub-continent being represented makes for a welcome change.
That is also my sort of Orc.
And Mr. Tumnus has traded in his brolly and parcel for a spear and shield. 😀
thanks for the share! Alquaev, while setting of the world and miniatures would be 12th century of our story, the backround of the factions of the menhirgames world starts from what it would be the Paleolithic , or the 12.000 bc. So who knows :o, at least you will have a backround, and later on something will be planed, it might take time, but i want at least to have 1 ruleset released to play with the released medieval miniatures line, and then to be played with the hypothetical “neolitic” ones. i will try it, i will aim to do… Read more »
They do look awesome and I’m very tempted.
Great looking orc. I wish they had a few more of them in different poses.
there will be, however, we are planing in building the armies in 20mm- 1/72 scale, (average is 24,5mm to head, the orc might be 27mm)
