Medbury Miniatures Ride Out With New Scottish Hobelars
January 8, 2025 by brennon
Medbury Miniatures showed off more of their Historical miniatures coming out this month via Patreon. The Medieval theme continues with their Scottish Hobelars, light cavalry for ranging the borders and running down foes.
Scottish Hobelars With Spears // Medbury Miniatures
Hobelars was a term used to describe light cavalry used by the Irish, Scottish and English with these miniatures intended to represent Scottish Hobelars from the Early 14th Century. There will be two kits with one allowing you to arm your Hobelars with spears and shields whilst the other allows you to give them hand weapons and shields.

Whilst the miniatures that you see here come with heater shields, there will be options for smaller round shields as well and they would also be appropriate. The riders are adorned in gambesons, come helmeted and with cloth or chain coifs. They also carry other bits and pieces on their person including a horn for one of the riders.

You should be able to use these alongside the Scottish Infantry that Medbury Miniatures released last year, giving you some great options for Medieval wargaming. A lot of their Scottish Infantry is already available physically in metal on their webstore HERE.
Are you going to be picking up this new cavalry set?

I love Medbury’s stuff, especially their “I can’t believe it’s not Middle Earth”, but I do have wonder why they are specifically Scots Hobilars, rather than just Hobilars. I can’t really tell from looking at them that they are Scots, maybe they have different accents
