Mantic Team Up With 343 For New Halo Miniatures Game!
January 5, 2024 by brennon
Mantic Games has announced that they are going to be working with 343 Industries on a new Halo tabletop game that will be launching directly to retail in September 2024!
New Halo Tabletop Game - 2024 // Mantic Games
The game will feature 40mm Spartan miniatures duking it out in multiplayer battles on the tabletop similar to the classic games of Deathmatch, King Of The Hill, Oddball and more. Focusing on this multiplayer-style game with bigger miniatures seems like a perfect way for folks to get quick and fun games in the Halo universe onto the tabletop.
Ronnie Renton explained...
"Having a firefight play out on the table while moving Spartans in and out of cover connects players to the action in a new and special way. We have a thrilling and competitive game, from a passionate team of talented sculptors, artists, and designers who have been building an incredible Halo experience."
I think this all sounds very awesome and it has been a long time since we've seen Halo on the tabletop. The last time would have been with Spartan Games and both Halo: Ground Command and Halo: Fleet Battles.
Maybe, if this new Halo game focused on the larger miniatures and multiplayer-style gameplay goes well, we could see this relationship expand to include games on a grander scale!
Are you excited by this news?

I just saw the email and said “Holy shit”…. biggest gaming news of the year (Yes its only the 5th of Jan). I feel not only the rules, cost and Halo gaming moving forward this is stunning news…well done Mantic on this Ip…
I was awesomely excited until 40mm. 28mm please. Is that poss? Why 40mm?
I personally like the 40 mm scaling because it allows for much more detail and ease of painting. I’m more interested in whether they’re going to be going the route of customizable miniatures with swappable weapons or if it’s something similar to Star wars shatterpoint where they’re going to go more heroic posing and have unique units.
Agreed. As someone who’s never played the video games I’m perhaps not the target market, but yeah 40mm is a big turnoff for me.
Yeah, the 40mm thing feels like a “gotta make sure people don’t use these in something like OPR.”
I want companies to understand proper scaling.
I thought the whole point of OPR is that you can use any figures you have, including 40mm spartans if you want.
The 40mm doesn’t bother me as such (as you’ll probably be using ALL the Mantic figures), BUT (and here’s where things start to break down) it’s things like terrain (if needed) that you can’t use your 28mm stuff and would have to buy all NEW terrain instead. But honestly it is getting silly these days. We’ve got 3mm/ 6mm/ 10mm/ 12mm/ 13.5mm/ 15mm/ 18mm/ 20mm/ 25mm/ 28mm/ 32mm/ 40mm etc etc. And the only REAL reason is an attempt to try and “lock” gamers into buying only one range (It really annoys me when John Stallard gets challenged about Warlord… Read more »
Spartans are really tall. doesn’t 40mm spartan = 28mm scale?
Personally, I don’t mind the scale. Halo has pretty much always been a dudebro game, so I don’t think the primary audience is going to be existing wargamers with a collection of models they will want new minis to fit into. At 40mm they won’t be much larger than Primaris, so they ought to fit all the same storage solutions. The impression I’m getting of the game is that it’s probably a much more finite thing than your typical wargame. I’m expecting something along the lines of Overdrive or maybe Underworlds; a quick, clean game that’s easy to get into… Read more »
I remember Halo Fleet Battles arrived on the scene to much fanfare, then petered out fairly quickly. RIP Spartan Games.
If it’s Mantic new plastic quality, then yes very excited.
Sad that the Spartan Games license has been squandered by Wayland, a new edition of Firestorm Armada would have been fun.
To be fair to Wayland they didn’t pick up the Halo licence as part of the buy up of Spartan’s IP when that company sadly went under.
And Wayland do have beta rules out, for free, for Firestorm Armada.
Like you I’m hoping they’ll develop that game with new miniatures etc soon but there’s no sign yet.
Halo wasn’t Spartan games’ to sell, when they went under it just went back to Bungee on 343 or whoever it was owned by at the time
Spartan armour on a person is around 7-8 feet tall…so “maybe” 40mm is the height of him only…re-reading the news it seems its “Red Vs Blue” spartan on spartan gaming, which maybe for me only is boring as hell, Halo is the story of man vs alien with a detailed story, not people leaping around in a death match. But with the IP in Mantic hands, future games, will (I`m hoping) be skirmish battles and maybe a 10mm mass battle game…? Its still great news that its Mantic behind it.
