Mantic Games & Red Scar Announce Kickstarter For Hellboy RPG
August 4, 2020 by brennon
Mantic Games, Red Scar and Dark Horse Comics are working together once more on something big and red as they announced that there will be a Kickstarter for Hellboy: The Roleplaying Game launching this summer.
Hellboy: The Roleplaying Game // Mantic Games
Using the 5th Edition rules to power the game with a bunch of additional tweaks here and there to make it feel more "Hellboy", this will allow you to step into the shoes of a B.P.R.D agent against the forces of evil. You can be a grizzled mercenary, a skilled and bookish researcher or perhaps a field agent with supernatural powers at their command.
The rules, penned by Marc Langworthy are pretty intuitive from what we've seen (more on that later in the month!) and it did feel like a good marrying of the easy-to-understand D&D rules and what Red Scar have bolted on. There is much more of an emphasis on teamwork and cooperation plus some funky ways to empower both the players and the storyteller during the telling of your tale.
Hellboy The Roleplaying Game Quickstart // Mantic Games
When the Kickstarter launches, you'll be able to get your hands on a Quickstart (pictured above) which features six characters for you to take control of and all of the rules you need to play. The adventure for this is a lot of fun (again, more on that later...we're such teases!) and feels very "Hellboy" so I would encourage people to try it out.
You can be notified of the launch of the Kickstarter campaign by clicking this link HERE. Obviously, one of the big bonuses for those who have played the board game from Mantic is that you can use all of the miniatures from it during the roleplaying game too! I believe there are even a few ways that you can make good use of the components from the board game in interesting ways too.
Are you going to be keeping an eye out for this?

The new rules sounds good and the figures an busts look fantastic.
Mantic and Redscar are doing some terrific stuff. I have the busts from the game but I’m sorely tempted by the big scale ones for painting
I adored the first 2 Hellboy films, I had no background in the story and they came as a complete surprise to me although haven’t seen the revamp that was made. The board game minis have been showcased by a superb golden button winner here on OTT and they are very tempting. The RPG sounds fun but my friends would be squabbling over who ends up as Big Red…of course it would be me ?
if you search you can find the comics all online to read, the new film is closer to the comics but badly done so avoid it it would just put you off. Also you don’t have to play the “main characters” there are lots of agents so you can just have a group with their own abilities and use Big Red as a NPC who can rescue your crew if the GM is being mean 😀
That’s great thanks for the heads up will take a look online once home from work appreciate that. Two of my friends are comic and graphic novel collectors and have promised to load some material as well so looking forward to that. Love the idea of Hellboy as a NPC, that would save some Rock Paper Scissors amongst my friends. ?
If I love this RPG half as much as I love the boardgame, it will still be in my top 10 RPG ever 🙂 This is a rich idea for the publisher to add a RPG to their board game (much like Monolith is doing with Batman and CMON with Zombicide) as the transition from one to the other is made seamless and it gives so much more life to the miniatures. Now I want a Black Plague RPG…
we have a playthrough scenario coming, if you took 5th ed and the Hellboy boardgame and said “now kiss” this would be the result, very innovative while still being easy to pick up for experienced or novices alike
Well, Mantic, take my money, again… (and again soon for the Umbrella Academy KS)
I heard a rumour that you have a month or so for Umbrella
Still have not finished painting the Box Full of Evil from HB. Working on integrating HB minis into Cthulhu Death May Die
I’ve not started my all in pledge for HB yet, although when I do start I’ll be stealing all my ideas from https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1511071/ to paint them
