Mantic Games Talk Deadzone In 2020 & Get You Playing Solo
March 27, 2020 by brennon
Mantic Games has been chatting a little bit about what's coming for Deadzone this year and to help out during these trying times, they also delved into how you can play this game solo. You can snag yourself the Nexus Psi Expansion for FREE right now.
The core element of this expansion is that it brings in the Artificial Stupidity rules which allow you to play games against ravenous Sci-Fi zombie hordes. So, if you're stuck at home right now you could set up a selection of different scenarios as you look to hold off waves of zombies. You could even make it a bit of a survival scenario where you see how many rounds you can hold out before you die.
Deadzone In 2020
As well as that, Mantic Games recently sat down to give us a rundown of what to expect from Deadzone in 2020...
As well as giving a refresher as to what the game is like and how you can get involved they also talk about what is coming around the corner so make sure to follow the video all the way through to the end.
Are you still a big Deadzone fan?

I like Deadzone, but I feel like Mantic need to repackage it as a true boardgame experience, with faction boxes, like what GW did with Warcry.
That would be a good thing for sure. With so many models being used by three different tabletop wargames, it would be smart to clean up some of their packaging for new players.
Exactly, the longtime fans can navigate Mantic’s sometimes scattershot approach to releases, but new players would benefit heavily from being able to see an army box at retail & just buy it.
Is that not how it is packaged now? You get the basic game that has scenery and two factions. Beyond that you can then buy additional factions and all factions have both a Starter Box and a Booster Box. It’s been like this for several years now.
The sumo warriors sounds interesting.
Artificial stupidity that could be Kryton Rimmer?
Deadzone is one of my all time favorite tabletop games. Just such a good game, so much fun to play. Always glad to see it getting some more development. Also, looks like the want to expand Deadzone, by looking into a updated/new version of the Firefight rules. For those people that have really large Deadzone forcers (and/or Warpath armies). So Firefight may see some new life this summer. Which would be awesome. Warpath Firefight has really had a difficult start. First KS backers had to fight to even get it produced, and then it wasn’t really anything more then Warpath… Read more »
I have loads of Deadzone stuff and would love to be able to use them in a scaled up game like Firefight. However I also would like to see Rebs as a Warpath faction, because they’re the largest force I have alongside Plague
I played the heck out of the first edition. It’s my favourite sci-fi wargame, to be honest.
I got a load of 2nd edition stuff in the Kickstarter, but I sort of burned out on building terrain. I think 2nd ed was an improvement in the rules and I#m looking forward to a campaign maybe later in the year to maybe get my group into it again.
I absolutely love this game. Sure, some of the older miniatures are a bit ropey but the game more than compensates by being so God damn fun. Also, if you have Star Saga you can use most of the miniatures from that in Deadzone. I think you can actually make some lists purely from Star Saga miniatures so you can double the value.
I do like it when they do a narrative style rulebook (like Nexus Psi, which was very good), but alas it’s been a few years since that was released (since then it’s just been the rules compendiums). Although the new faction is nice, it’s not going to bring ant big changes to the game. What would enthuse me greatly would be another narrative campaign book coming out (alas most companies tend to rely of just keeping the tourney scene up to date as this requires the least amount of effort to keep the game “alive”. In fact I’d LOVE to… Read more »

Deadzone is the best game!
It’s like chess, in 3 dimensions, with aliens and guns! Perfect.
Very happy I got to do a weekend of deadzone at Franticon before the world shut down, and will be straight back on it when we can go out to play.
Good news that there are new models coming, and did Ronnie say Firefight 2.0 on the recent Mantic podcast…..?

‘Making Deadzone bigger’ was a phrase, I got the impression he wants to explore ways to do a larger battle version of Deadzone rather than a smaller Warpath.
