Man & Beast Meld In 28mm Kickstarter – Going Native: New World Monsters
February 7, 2015 by stvitusdancern
What could be better than traditional characters for your tabletop games/dungeon crawls or RPGS? Heros? Monsters? Then you are going to love this project. Going Native: New World Monsters by Paymaster Games is offering a really cool line of 28mm miniatures through this Kickstarter project. In this line you can find some great heros and some beautiful monster sculpts. My favorites are the Mallku Condor and the Uktena/Horned Serpent.
The more you look at this line, the more interesting it becomes. The stretch goals are full of really cool sketches for a great variety of human/beast fusions. They would make quite the impression in any variety of game.
What game would you use these creative fusion miniatures for?
Have they delivered on the first KS yet???
As far as I can tell from the comments on that KS page, yes they have.
So I’d trust them in that regard, I’m just not enamored of the designs.
Meh. 80’s vibe to most of it. Horns on a serpent doesn’t work for me, and the folds on that other critter’s wings make them look like shower curtains.
They are antlers rather than horns which do look odd.
The idea of tapping into the unrepresented mythological creatures of the region is a good move, and an area I am not familiar with.
So maybe there is an antlered snake?
Just not quite doing it for me though I quite like the snake.
There is indeed a horned serpent in Native American mythology. I believe they’ve gone with antlers here though as a stylistic choice. Probably to separate it from the ram horned snakes that sometimes turned up in European iconography.
Thanks for the info Sam.
Am assuming that Mallku is a sort of variant on the Thunder Birds given the clouds?
Have just googled it and the name is of South American origin, which makes sense for a condor. However the word apparently means “leader” or “prince”
(The condor formerly known as Prince tee hee )
Don’t know why I said ‘horns’ and not ‘antlers.’ It’s not like I don’t have things with antlers running around the property and chewing up the garden in the summertime. Must still be numb from the unfathomable collective snit on another thread lol.
Yes they delivered.
In the sketches I have seen on other forums, the condor’s wings are meant to look like smoke or clouds coming off of them.
or the steam from the shower 😛
