"If more of us valued food and cheer above hoarded gold, it would be a much merrier world" - The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien
I find that any adventure - no matter how exciting or daring - can always be improved by a good meal! Indeed, anyone who has ever read LoTR or ASoIaF will understand that fantasy feasts are delectable delights that make your mouth water as you read along.
Now you and your traveling band of heroes can craft your own adventurer aperitifs in The Legend's Cookbook! Packed with wonderful recipes inspired by a sense of adventure, novelty and the wild, The Legend's Cookbook aims to produce food which transports you into new fantastical worlds.
Taking culinary styles and techniques from European meals, Spanish-trained chef Peter J. Abreu has worked alongside a team of creative professionals to produce a cookbook which aims to take cooks on a journey. The Legend's Cookbook contains fifty original recipes designed to delight the palate, alongside hundreds of hand-drawn illustrations and diagrams, professional food photography, and insights from the chef himself.
I love this cookbook. I think the hand-drawn designs and attention to ingredients really to combine to make it feel like an adventurer's field guide. If you are a GM, being able to produce rustic seafood as your party traverses the coastal cliffs, or rustling up baked apples in a mystical wood on a cold night seems like a perfect RPG evening to me!
While chef Abreu focuses on natural, fresh ingredients, that doesn't necessarily mean complicated cooking, and his book focuses on recipes which are suitable for a wide range of skill levels.
The Legend's Cookbook is available for purchase in digital, paperback or hardback, although personally I believe a book as beautiful as this deserves pride of place in the kitchen. You can check it out in more detail on the Kickstarter campaign here.
