The Legions Of Nagash Rise With New Battletome In Age Of Sigmar
January 8, 2018 by brennon
Continuing with news from the weekend, we also got news about what's coming for Age Of Sigmar. The realm of Shyish (Death) in Age Of Sigmar is the focus of Malign Portents and that means we need a new Battletome for the undead and Legions Of Nagash from Games Workshop...
The new Battletome comes with additional options for your Undead forces and Death as a whole including some new Allegiances which can be twisted together into some interesting new tactical combinations. It will also hopefully be another avenue into exploring some of the background behind this new turn of events in the Mortal Realms.
Whilst we're unlikely to see any new standard models for Death over the coming months I do hope we're going to see lots more interesting characters and maybe a few new units, or variations on old ones, to give the range a bit of a resurrection.
The Undead models from Games Workshop have always been pretty on point but there is still a lingering sense that they are very 'Old World' in places. Maybe a few more monsters and a new twist on the skeletons could be an option?
Will you be starting a new Death army?

I have to disagree with Brennon when it comes to those still being very Old World because that style still works so why brake it. Then again as some one who played Vampire Counts in WHF since 6th ed of that game I still like that GW’s take on gothic style that they had established for them back then. Of course that style started with first Vampire Counts Army Book back at end of WHF 5th ed but to me 6th ed was when it really become what it is to today.
It does work, in the context of the Old World (imo) – I think with some of the more over-the-top monsters and creatures they’ve got PLUS those new Skeleton models for Shadespire, I could see them changing up the general look of the rank and file undead to be more in keeping with the AoS aesthetic.
Believe this stems from how one is looking at WHFB and AoS and their connection. Technically there are miniatures and rules and background fiction. And aside from the official version, these may be connected or seperated in any way and degree one might please for each of them on their own but even more so concerning the relation between both. Either way I find it important not to restrain oneself too much in any matter of creativity and imagination only because of implications, trends, tradition and so on. Everything is just an offer and you choose what you make out… Read more »
With you on this. Death actually have quite a decent, up-to-date model range because it’s not actually that long since their range got some new kits. They have lots of medium and large monsters in hard plastic and of course they did quite well out of the End Times with things like the Mortarchs and Nagash. There’s definitely a couple of kits that perhaps could do with updating (The Blood Knights being chief among them) but the majority of the range is actually pretty good.
Six allegiances; one themed around Nagash, one for each Mortarch, one for Soul blight and can’t recall what the last one is meant to be.
as excited as I am for this, what with the release of the Tomb Kings DLC for Warhammer 2 Total War I am getting a bit reminiscent of the old Tomb Kings range, especially when they could be reintroduced as an undead force within the realm of heavens… We all serve Nagash, now!! Muhuhahehahehaaaaa!!!
I would very much like to see them make new zombies. The old ones are so very, very lumpy. and in need of an update.
Okay I’m not an undead kind of bloke……… far too “when things are going to s#!t try and have a laugh” I am. However for the moody, morose, nihilistic and ” the world’s agin me” set , * :- P this is a great battletome . and one that has been needed for a while. I did quite like Flesh-Eater Courts battletome when it was released but being “first edition” ** , it does suffer in comparison to more recent offerings. Hopefully there are a few new releases with this as some of the older troops kits, zombies I am… Read more »
