Legacy Army Lists Available For Warhammer: The Old World
January 22, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop has now made the Legacy Army Lists for several classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles factions available in PDF form for free. If you're diving into Warhammer: The Old World with the likes of Dark Elves or Skaven, you can now grab your rules.

You will need a copy of the new The Old World Rulebook to play with these lists but if you've got a good friend who has access to the rules already, you'll no doubt be a happy bunny. Included within the PDF, you'll find pretty much the same selection of gameplay material that is found in Forces Of Fantasy or Ravening Hordes for the other factions of The Old World.
To that end, these are complete lists with army composition rules, statistics for all of the typical miniatures found in the faction during 8th Edition, magical items, spells and special rules. The armies won't be available to play in official tournaments from Games Workshop but I would bet that any good-natured tournament organiser at your local club or friendly local gaming store is going to let you use your old toys and have some fun.
I had feared that these lists were going to be a little lacking but it seems like there's nothing really to set them apart from the official lists. These armies just won't get updated in the future (but who knows, they might change their minds) and won't get model support from Games Workshop. There are plenty of 3D Printable options (and physical ones) and more out there that people could use to help make these armies nowadays so it's not too bad.
Even if the Legacy Army Lists don't get the support from Games Workshop, I'm sure the community that is growing around the game will look to support and tweak them as they see more play. They were doing it for years previously so why stop now?
Will you be launching back into The Old World with some of these Legacy Armies?

40k and AoS had some free rules online…
Not aware of any free rules for Old World…
But I have grabbed the pdfs of the armies just in case.
I don’t imagine they’ll make The Old World core rules free, unfortunately.
These are the armies you will never see until GW releases the new models and then get rules. Sounds like standard operation.
Technically, all of these armies are easier to buy miniatures for than the core ones for The Old World. They all have very established Age of Sigmar lines (apart from Chaos Dwarfs) that you’d just need to rebase on squares (or stick the rounds in regiment trays). It’s weird haha
Yeah, with the “supported” Wood Elves, no-where to be seen! ;p
Well I do have about $500 (Canadian $, and from about 20 years ago) of Savage Orcs (metal Savage Orcs) to either play with or sell on EBay…
Just had a look at some of the PDFs. Interestingly theres some OLD stuff come back eg Dark Elf City Guard!
Cancon this weekend in Australia. It will be interesting to see which way the fantasy community goes – Old World, AoS or KoW. The AoS comminity is big but feels ‘tired’. KoW is steady but lost a little ground to a 6th ed Warhammer revival. Will Old World split the scene further or knock some games systems out?
