Learn Vampire Linage in The Book Of Nod in Vampire: The Masquerade
June 17, 2021 by fcostin
There have been some fantastic announcements recently for Vampire: The Masquerade, however, there is a new book on its way focussing on the lore and backstory of vampire linage. The Book of Nod is coming to the game by Renegade Games Studios and looking to share in the history of the haunted fiends.
The Book of Nod // Vampire: The Masquerade
The linage of vampires is no more than a myth. A speculation of the first vampires to roam, to feed on humanity. Whether these tales are not widespread due to the fear installed, or the tales of the unknown have been buried over time. But the Book of Nod has come into fruition, containing the deep secrets to the unknown stories from Vampire history.
The story follows Vampires in their tracks throughout ancient lore, teaching all that was valuable in the past to an awakened audience keen to learn more:
Their stories begin with the Chronicle of Caine and the earliest nights of the vampire. The Chronicle of Shadow reveals Caine's hidden teachings. Finally, the Chronicle of Secrets unveils the deepest mysteries of the Damned, including the coming dread of Gehenna.
Have you ever used historical texts to fuel your current RPG? Concealed in a gothic faux-leatherbound case, the upcoming release of The Book of Nod will allow you to incorporate the lore and backstory into your current Vampire: The Masquerade campaign. So if you are one who loves to be immersed in the rich story a game system has to offer, you may want to take a look at The Book of Nod.
The Book of Nod was originally released in 1993, however, the re-print is ready for action and contains artwork that was originally printed in the first edition.
It would not be vampires if there wasn't an artsy factor to the spine-chilling book. The book can be used in many different ways. Presented in a poetic fashion, the texts have been overwatched and coveted by Elders and Scholars as sacred reading. Whether you want to use the new content to thicken up your story, use it as an in-game prop or delve into the lore to find clues to enhance your campaign. The Book of Nod provides a completely new insight rather than a new book jam-packed with new rules. I feel that Vampires do things so gracefully...
The Book of Nod is currently on pre-order, looking to be released later this year along with a Deluxe version later in 2022.
Do you like the idea of a lore-filled book to enhance your RPG campaign, or do you prefer to create this yourself?

I’m terribly uncreative and lore & fluff is usually the stuff that drags me into a game/world/system.
I lost my copy of the Book of Nod years ago, if this is the same size as the old one I’ll pick it up to complete the collection again, normally I’d say £50 is too expensive but that’s cheaper than buying a second hand copy
I am always tempted to pick up stuff like this even when I am not interested in the Game system – as an example I often toy with getting stuff from the Call of Cthulhu RPG, even though I am never going to play that!
Vampire the Masquerade also falls into that category a rich Lore that I have only ever explored in the PC Game.
I also think it would be pretty fun to hang around with the folks who LRP this, even if my reasons are less than wholesome! ha ha
in the case of the book of Nod and the Revelations of the dark mother book books have no game content in them at all. Instead they are written as the actual books, or compiled from fragments of what remains, so for someone purely after lore it’s definitely worth a look at
I still have both my original Book of Nod and Revelations of the Dark Mother. I remember the raised eyebrows from my parents when I bought those.
I finally got my gaming collection in order last weekend (kinda) and this was one of the items that I found and had forgotten about.
It’s a bit of a weird one. Very usefull if you want your campaign steeped in myth and “history”, but keep in mind it’s written as a kind of ‘holy book’. Interesting, but not exaclty a page turner.
Ooh is this the book Blade was trying to get?
No, that was ‘completing your tax return for dummies’.
I still got my original copy 🙂
I had an original copy of the Book of Nod not sure what happened to it however, I still have my slip cased Vampire, werewolf and Mages books along with Vampire Dark Ages and the Viking sourcebook Wolves of the Sea for it.
maybe the prick who has mine stole yours as well! We should hunt them down together like a crime fighting duo.
I suggest Squirrel and Wolf Investigates as the name for the book deal and spin off series
Sasquatch an the fuzz investigation’s?
Back again I see. I really think that there needed to be more for Changeling out there but it was a difficult system to pin down. The same went for Mage but it at least had The Technocracy sourcebook and Strike Force Zero.
There was always good stuff for this flagship game and so much detail that I was almost moved to buy more than necessary because of the fluff.
