Learn the Past of the Greatest Vampire of All in Dracula Untold

A poster has just appeared for an upcoming movie, telling the story behind the greatest vampire of all time: Dracula Untold!
Dracula Untold is set to be a dark, atmospheric origin story, telling the tale of how Vlad Tepes (played by Luke Evans) was transformed into the terrifying vampire Dracula who would later go on to be told of in the book by Bram Stoker.
The film promises to be a medieval fantasy, where vampires and beings, such as the famous witch Baba Yaga, play their part in the creation of a legend. The film itself was also filmed in Northern Ireland, so it will be cool to see how the country we live in gets turned into Transylvania.
It's a film that, I think, has an interesting premise to it. We have seen Dracula's origins explored previously, most notably in Gary Oldman's depiction of the character, but this is the first time it has been the focus of an entire film. However, I'm also a bit worried that it could end up as more of the same unimaginative fantasy movies that we have seen before. We shall have to wait until October to find out.
What do you think guys? Are you hopeful for this movie? Or do you remain cautious?
If I’m not mistaken you were an extra on this movie. Where did Eddie Munster fit into the whole origin story? 😉
Actually I was an actor’s stand in… for a 15 year old boy.
What had the actor done to the last 15 year old boy, that required a new stand in one??!?!
Who said they could put our house on the poster?
A cloak made of bats must be a nightmare to pack.
Not really.
You just have to leave a very small gap in the lid of the trunk and they all manage to squeeze in somehow buy themselves! lol
And it will hang itself up when you unpack… upside down of course.
As long as he doesn’t f#$%&*g sparkle!
interesting, have to wait and see…
If this is anything less than a 15 rating then its going to be utter pap. A rated 12 retelling of the story of Vlad Tepes and his field of impaled and boiled alive enemies will rip the fangs out of Dracula the same way they ripped the teeth out of World War Z.
Dont get me started on World War Z!
I was reading on a history site that they think they have found Vlad’s grave in Naples
So this will be a movie Vlad being in captivity a lot, defeating the Ottomans in a few skirmishes and being very nasty to the local Boyars… Of course of lot of this might not be true as a lot of the history is based on German pamphlets of the time probably sponsored by Matthias Corvinus attempting to bolster his own ppularity in the Holy Roman Empire and trying to show why he didnt support Vlad in his attacks against the Ottomans. By Russian pamphlets that came out shortly after the German ones showing support for him, though this is… Read more »
Could be centered on some epic battles between Christians and Ottomans. That would be worth the price of admission.
My true worry when I see the words “untold” or “the true story” is they will water down an evil character to have a trauma in their youth that justifies the evil actions and try to paint them as the victim rather than being someone that chooses to be evil. Its become a staple of origin stories of villainous people for some time that I hate with a passion!
On the other hand, a depiction of villainy is often more effective when the motivation of the villain makes some sort of sense, at least to that character themselves within the fictional continuity, beyond mere moustache-twirling, top hat wearing, stereotypical evil for its own sake. What is more terrifying than a monstrously ruthless, violent and bloodthirsty villain who thinks of their actions as ‘necessary evils’ in pursuit of a higher goal? Or are even so twisted as to see themselves as righteous inspite of – or even because of – their brutality? Who see themselves as the true wronged party… Read more »
I am very, very cautious about this project. After so many truly, unutterably awful vampire films of recent years (with the heinous Twilight flicks effortlessly taking the crown for worst movie series of all time; entirely unintimidating sparkly emo vampires and the somewhat problematic depiction of native American werewolves – it really doesn’t get much worse than that) it is difficult to muster anything but bitter cynacism.
I hope to be proven wrong, but it is a slim hope at best.
