Knight Models Reveal The Impact Of Objectives In Batman 3rd Edition
November 18, 2019 by avernos
Continuing our ongoing series of sneak peaks for Knight Models upcoming 3rd edition of the Batman Miniatures Game we are going to take a look at how objective cards will impact your games of Batman.
Today we will show you a fundamental element of the new edition of the Batman Miniature Game: Objective cards. Both players form a hand of these cards at the start of the game.
These cards have a double function:
Firstly, and perhaps most commonly, these cards can be spent as a ‘resource’, to gain a temporary advantage during play. Playing a card in this way doesn’t provide Victory Points, but will provide a significant boost if you find yourself in a tight spot.
On the other hand, Objective cards also provide a number of criteria that, when fulfilled, allow you to score Victory Points that count towards the game result. This way of playing the card will give you a goal that must be met by your crew, in addition to any scenario conditions.
Not all crews play the same way, and the Objective deck provides different types of goal and resource, often dictated by a crew’s Affiliation. There are four types of objective represented in the game: Protection, Threat, Violence and Control.
Through the clever use of these cards, and a careful balance between playing resources and achieving goals, players will form strategies in their bid to control Gotham!
Having dual purpose cards like this is a great way to keep things fluid when you play, being able to give up a scoring chance in order to gain another benefit from the card can protect your gang or put pressure on your opponent and I like that. Sometimes objectives can be too static and the game play becomes formulaic because of that. But these cards give options, and options increase tactical flexibility and at the end of the day make the games more engaging and interesting to play.
Unlike the gang members did you spot the Batman?

Now this is interesting and potentially a big step forward for BMG. One of the good things about the game is that victory requires more strategy and board control than simply killing the enemy crew.
The hitch with static objectives however is the need to park models on most of them to score points. This new card system looks like if can change the battlefield over the course of the game and will incentivise movement. That sounds cool.
Hopefully they proofread the cards better though.
That henchman with a chainsaw . . . His particular clown makeup looks familiar . . .
that’s great models that are coming out for this game.
Sounds promising. I never liked the video game like scenarios of the past editions and expansions, hopefully this changes brings more logical and story driven objectives to the game out of the box.
Very beautiful knight model, I’m waiting for this 3rd part. Thanks for sharing this valuable information with us.
