Kabuki’s Christmas Present Is Unwrapped on their Webstore
December 2, 2014 by dracs
As Christmas is fast approaching Kabuki Models have released their special Christmas Christmas pin-up model which they believe to be The Perfect Present.
As with Kabuki's other sculpts, this Christmas present is very well sculpted and I am particularly impressed by the musculature of her back. She probably needs good back muscles, given the size of her breasts, but then it is a pin-up so I doubt anyone expected realism.
We previously saw this model when Kabuki first showed off the design in September and it sparked a lively debate upon the nature of sexism within gaming and miniature hobbies in general. Whatever your view, you can't deny Kabuki have done a good job in recreating their initial render as a model.
What is your opinion of Kabuki's Christmas present?
That looks really nice.
She is lovely!! even down to her cheeky grin.
I wonder what’s in the box lol
Maybe a faux fur coat, to go with her attire 😉
Didn’t we have this argument last year?
Yes, we did, and I haven’t changed my opinion at all since then – I still think that it is offensively sexist and exploitative. I will say no more on the matter than that.
In my opinion – and it is just my opinion – if we want to see wargaming/miniature painting become more widely appreciated, the industry needs to stop producing stuff like this. What do others think?
Like I said, we had this argument over the Christmas Floozie last year
It won’t end well
Yes, no longer producing models like this will make our hobby, that basically speaking is all about killing other people, more palatable to the masses…
Just like perfume sales will soar when they stop using their sexist add campaigns
You know it is Christmas when the overproduced Parfum pour femme et l’homme advertisements start spamming telly selly time.
Please dear sweet baby of God make them stop
GOLD! A new fragrance with a not so subtle hint of frankincense and myrrh!
Parfum pour l’Enfant-Jésus!
You’re probably right, I just find stuff like this a bit embarrassing
I find it more embarrassing that in the 1 year and 7 months you have been registered you have made 8 posts on this site. For the most part they were piss take comments. Troll and wind up merchant.
2/8 and one was a reference to Catchphrase
He only said what he saw.
I’ll have to once again disagree, I considered at least 5/8 comments of a negative nature with the intention of just stiring things up/winding up other users. As is often the case, what one person sees is only what they want to see.
Three comments at most could be construed as negative.
And nothing so devastatingly withering for anyone to be bothered about.
Even less so when put in the context of the threads rather than isolated in his profile.
You said it was two in a previous post, now you are saying it could be three? Well has it occurred to you your opinion might not be someone else’s?
If one stretches the definition to breaking point maybe a third.
What gives you the impression that your hostile opinions are absolute?
You took his comments out of context in order to accuse Aaron of being a troll
The only answer you ever have is to call some one names and say their opinion is wrong. You have no other arguments on the matter of gender politics in miniatures.
Throwing your weight around is no substitute for rational discourse.
“industry needs to stop producing stuff like this” when someone makes an all encompassing comment like that, they should expect a retort.
Need to stop?! Piss off. People should produce what they like.
Sooooo, just because it’s not his idea of fun, the industry needs to stop?! Again, piss right off, liberal dribble once again showing what killjoys they all are. “its not my idea of fun, so you cant do it either”
“Well has it occurred to you your opinion might not be someone else’s? ”
It’s Aaron’s opinion, according to your own comment it should be just as valid as yours.
Yes, but it’s oh so obvious when someone is trying to be a wind up merchant, you would know all about that…
And yes, his point is valid. I’m disagreeing with it, which I’m allowed to do.
It’s still his opinion.
He is allowed to express it, despite your disdain.
Yes, he can express his opinion, I can also express my disdain, which I’m continuing to do so.
I would happily have a set of pin ups like her, maybe even some to decorate my tree with 🙂
So that’s how Christmas trees spontaneously combust…
That’s not very friendly Dave – it was just an observation, and like I said, just my opinion. Given that opinions are like arseholes (everyone’s got one!), in future I’ll leave the opinions on here for the ‘mosty posties’ like you. It never ceases to amaze me how nasty people can get over toy soldiers. Happy Christmas folks 😉
Never come between a man and his tiny toy totty.
Nasty? I was calling into question the nature of your posts. Sorry if you don’t like being questioned. Obviously doesn’t happen often.
And I tell you what Dave, if you want to be rude to people over the internet, just for having an opinion, I assume you are equally as good at being rude to people over the phone. If you want, you can give me a ring today on [POSTING A PHONE NUMBER ON INTERWEB IS NEVER A GOOD IDEA – WE MIGHT ACTUALLY CALL YOU 😉 – Warren] and we can have this out. Thanks Aaron
I’m not one to usually rise to dribble like that, but in your case I’ll make an exception. You are the one I found to be initially rude, do not try and turn this around and try to make out you are the victim. Now I come to think of it, I’m even better at being rude in person, live near London? [INVITATIONS FOR PERSONAL MEETUPS AND WHATEVER THAT MIGHT LEAD TO ARE DISCOURAGED HERE ON BEASTS OF WAR – THIS IS NOT A DATING SITE 😉 – Warren)
Thanks Dave Johnson.
The glove has been taken of and swiped across the face.
“Sirrah, you have slighted my honour! I demand satisfaction.
It’s water pistols at dawn!
Poor Dawn, I don’t know what she has done to deserve it.
Funnily enough, not far Dave – wanna take this to PM?
I’m quite happy for you to ring me Warren, maybe if people actually spoke to each other….. there’s a thought.
You see worse than this on t shirts, really cant see how this is sexist my wife wouldnt have a pfoblem with me bringing one home, its a nice sculpt take it as that.
Lovely sculpt and in no way sexist or whatever. Its just a bit of fun for Christmas.
Once in a while its nice to see something that is just fun for fun’s sake which I think, if anything, boosts the whole miniature painting thing. Variety is the spice of life and all that. There’s only so many bolters and power axes a person can paint.
Taking out provocative and salacious sculpts, there are still a lot of other superb models out there that have no bolters and power axes to practice/show off painting skills on.
Okay there IS only space marines or naked ladies to paint.
Sorry to anyone I have offended for suggesting otherwise.
I know this. I was being (or at least trying to be) a little facetious to make a point. There’s miniatures available for every genre or theme you could possibly imagine, so why not scantily clad pinup-style ladies sitting on a big Christmas present? Just another option for people who like that kind of thing. If we were all interested in the same things it would make for a very boring existence. Have you (and by you I mean whoever is reading this, not aimed directly at @chibi) ever painted a miniature of a girl sitting on a large Christmas… Read more »
Can a mod just delete all these comments and start this over again? lol
What? And spoil the fun?
When you start taking things seriously on the internet it is time to log off 😉
Nice sculpt, just boring for me because I have no use for it.
There’s a lot of talk about whether the mini is or is not sexist, but no attempt to define what sexism is. The Oxford Dictionary definition: “Prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex” With the example sentences: ‘sexism in language is an offensive reminder of the way the culture sees women’ ‘It is a practice which perpetuates sexism, sex discrimination and sexual violence.’ Clearly the mini in and of itself does not discriminate against women. The question would be whether the mini perpetuates sex discrimination. Please nobody reply to this with an answer unless that… Read more »
Ironically, the Oxford Dictionary does not seem to use the Oxford comma lol.
A joke for the grammar nerds there 😉
That’s because the Oxford Comma is abhorrent and should be purged from existence.
“I am playing in a DreadBall tournament with the BoW team, Ronnie and Jake”
Are Ronnie and Jake the BoW team? Or are they in addition to the BoW team? The Oxford comma to the rescue!
“I am playing in a DreadBall tournament with the BoW team, Ronnie, and Jake”
Well, if Ronnie and Joke were the BoW team, personally, I’d have used a colon after “BoW team”. As to what the proper usage is, I’m going to plead ignorance.
Besides, everyone is missing the real issue. Some people are doing something that I find to be personally offensive, therefore no-one in the entire world should be allowed to do it! 😉
Wait, are we still talking about people not using the Oxford comma? lol 😀
Erm… yeah…
Sure…
Would you say it’s exploitative?
That’s a really difficult question to answer (which is why I didn’t lol). The problem is we lack context and we lack any real research. It may be possible to say that the mini is an example of female imagery which collectively contributes towards discrimination against women in society. However, that would need a lot more evidence and lot more research to be presented to back it up. Even if it was presented, it does not necessarily mean there is an issue with this specific mini because the discrimination it contributes to is not an inherent feature of the mini.,… Read more »
The imagery is blatantly obvious.
She is sitting on a box with tied a ribbon. A gift.
The Santa hat tells us that it is a Christmas present.
The only other thing she wears is a ribbon. She is also gift wrapped
A young naked girl depicted as present.
It commodifies the young woman. She is merely an object to be possessed.
The imagery is deliberately salacious.
So overall, I can’t possibly see how this mini is sexist in any way
She’s wearing a Santa hat. Santa is the person who gives you Christmas presents, not the present himself. She is sitting on box which is wrapped up like a Christmas present, this is the present she is giving you. She is in wrapping because she has wrapped the present herself. She is not the gift, in fact, she is not attainable at all to the male gamers who buy her. She exists to degrade them with the knowledge that they’ll never have a woman. They’ll just have their gaming stuff which they’re getting for Christmas. See how easy it is… Read more »
Which is why I say context, evidence, and research is required to back up an interpretation. If you don’t do that, all you get is argumentative opinions being exchanged.
Except Santa wears clobber and doesn’t sit on the pressies displaying his sack with gay abandon. he doesn’t wear the ribbons which are presentational She is on display. She sit on the box to stop someone getting toy soldiers? Why? The box is a gift but she is playing Santa giving the gift but witholding it at the same time? Surely if she were to be like the real Father Christmas she would be more like Nemesis bearing both gifts for the good and a brand to beat the bad. Your interpretation was merely an attempt to debunk rather than… Read more »
What I’m trying to do is show the folly of an internet debate based on the presentation of an opinion as fact. Even if the opinion is actual representation of the fact, without an evidence-based context the debate cannot move beyond the headbutting of opinions. The sculpt is pornography. I doubt there’d be many people here who would dispute that. The way you present the term suggests you think it is a bad thing. This can’t be left as an assumption as not everyone thinks that. It would again require an evidence-based presentation on why the mini being pornographic is… Read more »
Well at least you recognise the blindingly obvious unlike some
As for the ethics of the piece, it is objectifying women, and worse still presenting them as commodity.
There is nothing I can say if you are fine with that.
I have intentionally not provided an opinion on whether the mini is sexist or not. For the reasons I’ve bored everyone with in the walls of text that I’ve posted, I don’t think it’s a useful discussion to have unless it is correctly contexted and both viewpoints are evidence-based.
What people are referring to when they say that this mini (or any pin up mini) is sexist is the sexual objectification of women.
Here’s a link for more reading, you can decide for yourself what you think.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_objectification
That seems like a rather well sculpted model over all and conveys a strong sexual theme is obvious to all. I will never get pin up models as a personal taste, just like I would not paint a pin up on a plane (if I had a plane and the military still allowed it.) But I can still appreciate the skill and talent that it took to make this a reality. My hats off to the sculptor. Oh there is one other reason I’ll never buy a model like this. My wife would most likely mock me for my model… Read more »
Nobody stops us from painting pin ups on our vehicles we just choose not too, we paint dicks on everything instead, my gunner had 330 in his station at one time it was getting a little silly.
Our ability to transcend our physical limitations to draw a dick pretty much anywhere is what separates us from the animals. Did mankind ever offer a greater achievement than drawing a dick on the surface of Mars?
http://animalnewyork.com/2013/nasa-drew-a-giant-dick-on-mars/
The constant need to be obsessed with the carnal is what keeps us bestial.
Or it’s what allows us to be a fit species in the most basic of evolutionary ways. You pays your money, you takes your choice.
At the most basic evolutionary way it is a quick fuck up the back alley
Bernini’s Ecstasy of St Teresa is very erotic. But it transcends sex.
Daubing dicks on military vehicles transcends nothing, merely indicated a brutish animality.
Drawing a penis on the surface of the red planet is a strong metaphor though.
We’ve fucked the Earth, now we are gonna fuck Mars
Our obsession with sex in all the forms it takes is an evolutionary impulse and the marker of our success as a species. We are an animal, a mammal to be precise, and we do the things that mammals do. What separations us from the rest is not our obsession with sex, but our ability to express that obsession, whether it be in exquisite sculpture or dick drawings on the surface of Mars. St Teresa may have dressed her fantasies up in terms of religious ecstasy, but that thrusting, burning spear in the angel’s hand that left her on all… Read more »
It is not a tossed bone but a spaceship that denotes the Human rather than the animal
Thus spake Zarathustra.
You know what, I think you just won the internet.
Brutish animality I like the sound of that
It looks very similar to some of GZG’s Gentlemen’s collectibles range
This is the second heated debate in a short time. I remember Warren talking about opening a discussion about this. Maybe you guys could look into this.
It could be great to have a proper debate about this. Having people sitting around a table, each having time to make their arguement, somebody to quiet people while talking during other peoples time. We could follow it live and ask questions by commenting or something.
The problem with doing this kind of thing live is the risk of someone saying something ‘out of context/stupid/misspeaking/joke gone wrong’ I’m not sure we want to expose people to ‘hate’ when they just made a mistake.
I’m not sure the maturity levels are quite there yet to do this.
Like you I think it would be a great debate to have, provided the debate and those having it were shown a reasonable level of respect.
Otherwise it would potentially be more noise, and any signal would be lost.
But it is something we are watching closely
Yes, there could be mistakes, there could hate. But the people taking part of the debate should be aware of this, just like any politician knows this when he goes to a debate. We shouldn’t run away because some people would react the wrong way. I think there are people who are mature enough. It’s just the internet, how something is understood and how is was meant to be understood is sometimes different. The rules of the debate should be clear, there should not be a lot of room for jokes (as they could be wrongly understood) and respect should… Read more »
1) We’re not politicians, us and those who would be on are likely just to be normal folk. 2) No one is running away, just not running into a sh*tstorm 😉 3) Not concerned so much with those in the debate as those watching it 4) The internet has ruined peoples lives before … ergo … 5) Rules/Clarity mmm possibly – Jokes are just human nature (little control over that) – remember we are talking about live where the margin for error is much much greater – prerecorded may well be a possibility (But still suffers some of the same… Read more »
I didn’t follow the gamersgate stuff, will look it up.
I guess you’re right. If I could help with this, just let me know.
Is it just me or does the wrapping not all line up? Seems like a certain piece just disappears. (I’ll let you find it.) For some reason I find that annoying.
