Join Harald’s Varangian Guard In SAGA
September 27, 2015 by brennon
Gripping Beast have shown off a soon to be released unit that is quite fitting considering Friday was the fall of Harald Hardrada. See what you think of his Varangian Guard from his younger days...
These would have been the warriors that Harald took with him when he went off on his travels and fought for the Byzantine Emperor. They were richly rewarded for their ferocious fighting prowess.
You can see that the models are slightly more 'exotically' armoured and this set gives you both a unit of warriors with sword and shield and a second wielding massive dane axes.
There are of course rules for you to pick up this army and use them in your games of SAGA. With Friday marking the death of this legendary Viking king it is good to see his younger days remembered by Gripping Beast.
What do you think of this set painted by Darren Linington?

Nice minis and a great paintjob. A kick up the jacksy for anyone who thinks dark ages = brown 😉
Those are really nice. It makes me listen some Turisas.
Nice paint job. I don’t need them but another unit or two can’t hurt
I do like the Rus/Byzantine mix and match of their clothing etc
NICE, might have to get a few to stick into the Jomsvikings
Beautiful!
Luckily there’s no such thing as having too many Viking miniatures. I’m ordering!
