Italian Units Get Ready For New The Silver Bayonet Hunts
October 22, 2024 by brennon
North Star Military Figures has been showing off some of the new Units that are coming to The Silver Bayonet to support the latest supplement, Italy: The Shades Of Calabria.
The Calabresi Unit // The Silver Bayonet
You can start with The Calabresi Unit which contains a selection of classic Historical fighters but also plenty of folks ready to defeat the folk horrors stalking the lands of Italy. They all fit into the background of the new supplement...
"Something sinister has risen in Calabria, the hauntingly beautiful yet dangerous province of southern Italy. Still recovering from the destructive earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people, the region's clergy preached a crusade against France and its allies. As the major nations vie for military, political, and ideological supremacy over the Mediterranean, the Bourbon royal family plots to reclaim its Neapolitan throne, sending agents from its Sicilian stronghold to support the briganti – Calabria's bandit gangs – in waging a bloody guerrilla war against the occupying French. Meanwhile, rumors spread that the dead no longer rest easy, but rise from their graves to wander isolated valleys and mountain paths..."
As well as The Calabresi, you've also got a Unit for The Kingdom Of Naples. Again, a good mixture of different regular troops from the period mixed in with the occult practitioners who will be handy when facing down the terrible creatures that you'll end up coming up against in games of The Silver Bayonet.
The Kingdom Of Naples Unit // The Silver Bayonet
These two units are going to find themselves going up against foes both mortal and monstrous including a LOT of undead. Italy: The Shades Of Calabria features a full solo/cooperative campaign as well as your traditional competitive scenarios. There will also be new rules to get your head around, new soldiers and more.
The miniatures are great as always and a nice blend of the Pulp and the Historical. The Silver Bayonet still remains one of those great games for those who want to get into a game that is history-adjacent. Get the thrill of Hollywood Horror and a touch of Sharpe whilst also diving into a game where you might have to learn uniform patterns and such for colour schemes!
Do you like the look of these new Units?

I’ve never understood this game, the minis aren’t fantastic, but ok?
It’s a fun and solid system that let’s you do a lot of whacky stuff. Plus, it’s historical fantasy/what-if type stuff that *doesn’t* have Nazis in it, which is always a breath of fresh air.
Probably one of the best skirmish games on the market right now.
The models look fine to me. All the detail you could really need, although I wish they sold them individually as well as in these packs.
I’m just not a fan of Nick or North Star.
Glad the game is fun! It does seem to come up frequently.
Re Nazis, the only games I have that has them is WW2, where they belong. Why would they be anywhere but there?
Oh wait – what about vampire zombie Nazis who travel in time? That would be fun, maybe? Heck yeah, now I’m seeing the possibilities!
The main point is that it felt like, for a while there, the only alt-history games we got were weird war 2. And that one game about Victorian era armies on Mars or some such thing.
Occasionally Northstar offer the figures on sale individually. In fact, there’s an opportunity right now to pick up single models from all the sets released before SB: Egypt.
The game is really fun. However I am disappointed that unlike Frostgrave / Stargrave they did not do any plastic models. The metal ones are generally okay but given the rules allow you to have a wide choice of troops they always feel very limited being in metal. I had dreams of doing kitbashes for my troops. While other companies have plastic models the poses are so limited. Because it is a rank and file pretty much all the models are in marching poses which look really stupid in this game. They are often a complete model just with the… Read more »
As someone who plans to just use a bunch of the metal Perry Brothers stuff, that doesn’t bother me so much.
Victrix has some good variety of poses in their kits. The real issue is they come in boxes of like 50 dudes, which is total overkill for this.
nice sculpts
These look splendid. A lot would fit into my Spanish themed collection 👍👍
Without a doubt my favourite gaming genre – Napoleonic Horror. The Silver Bayonet translates this niche gaming period with flying colours imho. As always, I appreciate the simplistic historical style of these minis – a breath of fresh air with all these over adorned miniatures on the market. I will be buying all these up.
Kudos Northstar!

Preach, brother!
Thanks man, glad you agree.
Two fantastic sets full of character and some of the best sculpted and cast single piece metals going, at very reasonable prices too. You just can’t beat a great chunk of metal for mini designed for gaming.
