Ichiban Painting Studio Brush Up on Kickstarter
April 24, 2014 by dracs
Ichiban Painting Studio are heading to Kickstarter with Games and Gears to bring out their new set of pro painting brushes to help you give your minis the perfect paint job.
The Kickstarter aims to bring us a set of four, high quality, sable hair bristle brushes, each of which have removable tips which can be slotted into the handles to help keep the brushes safe.
There are even plans for special carrying cases for the painter on the go.
The Kickstarter will be appearing tomorrow (25th April) and could be a good opportunity for those of you looking for a better quality of paint brush to help you achieve all those effects Romain has showcased.
Is it worth picking up high quality brushes, or is it better to use cheaper ones that can be easily replaced?
You wouldn’t want to use these for dry brushing or base coating. Cheap brushes handle those tasks very well. These brushes would be better suited for technical and precision painting so they last a little longer.
Sorry but Ichiban is overrated and I like my readily available brushes just fine.
Very nice looking brushes but a tad expensive.
Oo. Shiney over priced gimmick brushes.
I’ll stick to my Series 7s thanks.
Likewise
I like the idea, but with Rosemary & Co brushes costing less than a fiver for most sizes we use and handmade from kolinsky sable, I’m not sure they could offer sufficient value for money to compete.
In answer to your question Sam, yes I do think quality brushes are worth investing in and the market has plenty to choose from. Are these quality? I guess that’s down to the individual to decide based on what their expectations are. All I can say is based on my own first hand experience of G&G brushes from their original Kickstarter I’ll not be backing this one.
For one I have no need of travel brushes and if I do, my Series 7’s have decent end caps which more than adequately protect them in transit.
While I like the idea I’m just fine with my Raphael 8404s. A little cheaper than the Series 7s and I honestly feel are of better quality.
I will keep on Prince August synthetics brushes. They are of very good quality for this type of products and i don’t want animals to be killed for me to paint little soldiers. And no, plastic industry does not make more pollution and destruction than animal industry.
I would try these out if available… I had one or two of such brushes with caps, back in the day. They do look very practical for a travelling painter (which I am). I don’t know if i’d go so far as back the project, though.
I have windsor and newton brushes. A bit of an investment, but with care you can use these for a longer time then cheap brushes of the same price put together.
And as the quality of the brushes is high, it helps with the result.
I’m terrible at taking care of brushes so I buy very cheap ones and replace then fairly regularly. I wouldn’t pay a lot of money for something I’m likely to wreck.
