Huge Saurian Fantasy Range Planned By Lost Kingdom Miniatures
March 23, 2018 by brennon
Lost Kingdom Miniatures are planning to return to crowdfunding with a new Fantasy range. This time they are heading into the hot and sweltering jungle to find out what Saurian forces lie amidst the shady canopy.
They are planning to go bigger than they've gone before with this project, focusing on specific characters like the Chameleon Hunter that you see above as well as full units packed with finely detailed soldiers. Here we can see one of the units of Chameleons, and the wild scenic bases that Lost Kingdom have planned.
It isn't just the little guys that will be getting characters though as they also have plans for some big hulking Saurians to be thrown into the mix, very much akin to the Saurus Warriors of Warhammer Fantasy. Here we see one of their characters who managed to capture a hapless adventurer!
Here is the unit that goes with him from the preview too, where once again we're seeing lots of detail built into the models. They don't have quite as dynamic bases as the others we've seen but I'm sure you could build up quite the jungle around them.
I like the idea of the entire army being themed around the idea that it is in the midst of an ambush. The whole jungle shakes with their sudden movement as they break from cover to rip apart some would be invaders.
What do you think of their previews?

those are some rather nice models!
ooh chameleons colours? are unimaginable Romain could go bananas on these.
i think these are the most terrifying lizardmen i’ve ever seen. brilliantly imagined stunning sculpts.
Fabulous lizardmen! If I need more, these will be it.
I really admire the quality that went into these sculpts, not to mention they are lizardmen. But it really kinda kills me to see someone so blatantly jib GW again.
GW aren’t making lizardmen anymore, are they? Besides, these are higher quality than the GW rank and file troops. Are they still a 9th Age thing? I don’t follow GW much these days as they’ve kinda drifted to the middle of the pack.
They call them seraphon, but it’s the same models.
@cpauls GW make lizardmen under the name of seraphon. They repackaged the old Lizardmen as one of their first releases for Age o’ Sigmar.
And these, even though they are very good and imaginative sculpts, are rather derivative of the GW lizardmen look/style and should work fine with existing Lizardmen armies. But I imagine that was the idea.
They’re aimed at 9th Age game if I understand, of course they will be as derivative of GW as possible, like everything about that game.
Dangit, I would have absolutely LOVED these if it wasn’t for the whole “Aztec-ish” look they’ve got. That was what always kept me away from starting Lizardmen in Warhammer Fantasy, I kinda hate that aesthetic sadly.
The sculpts are looking great so far, and I’ve recently started a tiny Salamander force for Kings of War that I’m looking for other stuff to add to later down the line. Think I’ll write these off for now 🙁
they’re lizardmen, they don’t belong to GW. me personally i was thinking RPG miniatures when i saw them. besides it’s not like GW inventent orc’s, elves or dwarves now is it.
Chameleonic lizard-people with blowpipes and mesoamerican theme are associated exclusively with GW tho. I’m sure you can find some obscure fantasy novel with them mentioned, but let’s be honest here, they’re GW stand-ins, not any sort of attempt to build innovative IP.
I suppose that’s where the market is. If you can make GW getter than GW, you’ll appeal to all the gamers out there who don’t have to play at a store. Wargame Exclusive is another example: awesome 40k stuff.
I got kroot hounds at Zealot last year that were amazing (I’m using kroot in a Traveller game).
I actually don’t mind the Meso-American theme, as it gives you an excuse to paint with a vibrant, colourful palette. You just have to unsee the GW association.
Come on. There’s no need to dance around this. Are we not miniatures’ enthusiats? By nature we ought to have an eye for things beyond mere surface categories and names. Especially concerning looks. Do we really have to talk about that certain fantasy tropes and categories do extist in different settings but differ between them? Obviously even though there are parallels Tolkien orc =/= GW orc =/= Warcraft orc and so on… These are clearly based on the WHFB-Lizardmen design. Obviously GW did not invent lizard-people. But they created a quite distinct look with both their bodies (which also underwent… Read more »
I don’t play GW games so I don’t make those associations. I just like ’em, and they’re better than what GW makes.
