Héra Mini Revealed For War Of The Rohirrim & Middle-earth SBG
November 29, 2024 by brennon
One character has been missing from the previews for the new War Of The Rohirrim line-up and the latest edition of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. Héra, daughter of Helm, has now popped up, ready to take the fight to Wulf and the Usurpers Of Rohan.
Héra, The Bride Of Death // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
As the youngest child of Helm Hammerhand and his only daughter, Héra finds herself in the middle of the brewing feud between the Lords of Roha with Freca and Wulf lighting the fire. You can see her represented here in her bridal white, ready to act as an avenging warrior with sword and shield at the ready.
I must admit that I have been looking forward to seeing the miniature for Héra since the announcement of the War Of The Rohirrim range and I find myself a little disappointed. I've found the other miniatures that have been revealed fantastic, packed with detail and looking like a great halfway house between the classic Middle-earth aesthetic and that of the new anime movie.
Something about Héra seems a bit lacking. I don't feel like she looks particularly like her character from the movie but then again maybe that's a hard balance to achieve for the sculptors? I am in two minds!

Greek goddess in Middle Earth?
Nice mini but expecting a C&D from ancient Greece in 3 … 2 … 1 ….
They put ™ on the end of the name so they own Hera now 😀
No, you have to pronounce it like a Canadian:
“Oh! It’s her, eh?”
@sundancer stop asking questions and Eat the slop you are fed, pleb.
Watch the film.
Buy the stuff.
You can’t make me! @onlyonepinman
At least she doesn’t have those gigantic anime eyes.
As a female warrior in that kind of setting she’s also quite boring. It’s like she is missing purpose in life.
I believe the correct pronunciation in Old English would be “Mary Sue”. Let’s face it, if you have read any of the interviews with the writers, she’s got “self insert” written all over her. Mark my words, this is going to be Rey Palpatine-Skywalker all over again
Wait did they have modern western writers write it? Dang its likely ruined on arrival in that case but will keep fingers crossed.
Two Kiwi women – Phillipa Boyens and Phoebe Gittins. Here’s a quote from Boyens “We know Helm has a daughter, and we know that she was central to the conflict that happened. But myself, and especially screenwriter Phoebe Gittins, were drawn to her. We could feel the weight of being that unnamed daughter, which immediately piqued our interest: Who was she? How did she live?” She was so central to the conflict that Tolkien didn’t even name her. I can’t for the life of me think why they were drawn to her. They also chose Héra as the name because… Read more »
The more I read about it, the more my excitement drains away
Doesn’t feel very MESBG to me in sculpt, though I don’t think any of the new Rohan Minis except the troops do.
From what I saw of the stats previewed this also looks like G’Wulla are firmly bringing new mini gets a 1+ on stats to get people to go buy it, which just makes me even more sad than I was that this new edition of MESBG is triying to fix something that wasnt broken and ruining it.
Very true
Does that make her ‘better’ than Eowyn(sp?) ?
IF it does then it really rams home the message that her stats are there to sell the mini …
Heck … to be honest it feels wrong to have a character added to the setting just for the movie.
I don’t mind the mini and I think it is OK, but it is nothing special. We all have seen better. The name I find a stupid choice, with so many Old English names to choose from – why they went with Hera is beyond me (but Nightrunner, it has an accent on the ‘e’ is it’s OK, right!).
Yeah, it’s such an odd-man-out name, considering the names of everyone else in Rohan. It’d be like having a culture based on Rome with names like “Claudius,” “Augustus,” and “Maximus,” and then Claudius just randomly names his daughter Sakura.
You are correct, the name doesn’t fit with the setting and this should probably tell you something about the writers of the film, how much they know and understand about Tolkien’s work and consequently how respectful they are likely to be.
Doesn’t even look like a girl. Who’s going to play ‘her’ in the Peter Jackson movie ?
it’s an animation … so no real person is going to be playing her, unless they do what Disney does and make a life action movie out of the anime.
Ew, no please.
If it where live Action instead of anime and had real world person based its based upon I would say a recent American Women sports Champion. But hey its GW, a lot of their female minis look this way.
Miss me with this “we can make a better Eowyn” fanfic nonsense. As a generic female warrior mini, it’s honestly pretty good, but that’s no LotR character, and she never will be.
Well its GW sculpting a subject they and other wargame mini sculptors for hard plastics tend to be famously bad at (women) and the sculpts that are good of women for hard plastic tend to get criticized for sexualization or being unrealistic so no big surprise she turned out this way.
