Call On Henchmen & Hirelings With Reaper Miniatures
November 16, 2021 by brennon
Reaper Miniatures has got a brand new set of miniatures for you to snap up if you're looking for some dungeon delving helpers. The Henchmen & Hirelings set features a collection of 28mm plastic figures for you to send into the dungeon first as Fantasy fodder!
Henchmen & Hirelings // Reaper Miniatures
The set collects together a vast array of different characters that you might find wandering around in dungeons or perhaps a haunted, frozen city. I think that this would be a brilliant set for someone to pick up, for example, if they were going to be adventuring in Frostgrave and Felstad.
Henchmen & Hirelings Female Characters // Reaper Miniatures
Bobby Jackson has done a sterling job on this collection and you can see their trademark style in their faces. I do like that a lot of the characters are carrying a selection of adventuring equipment as well as weapons, making them a nice narrative choice. I also like that there is a good mix of both male and female characters in the set.
Henchmen & Hirelings Male Characters // Reaper Miniatures
I love that the Hedge Mage could actually be the Wizard of the set for games of Frostgrave and all of the others are just his hangers-on and hirelings. You could actually just make an entire Frostgrave warband out of this without having to go anywhere else.
Henchmen & Hirelings Full Collection // Reaper Miniatures
A fantastic set that is fantastic value as well since all of the miniatures are one-piece plastics. I think a lot of people are going to find themselves loving this set. Whether you are attempting to delve into more dungeons, play out a skirmish game or something different, these are fun characters!
Will you be picking this up?

They look really good, but Reaper plastic? Never again.
I bought a few Reaper Bones and made the mistake of ‘generic primer’ on them and it never stopped being sticky. Not sure what sort of plastic it is, but I had the same problem with Terrain Crate and Star Saga… never seems to dry.
There is information on the Reaper website about this issue…

Yeah, I know. I used recommended spray primer carefully, from larger distance, and they still get tacky with time (some weeks). I have some translucent ones, and they were painted only with brush, and still got tacky… So much work, and its a shiny, tacky mess. I hate it. So never again.
@pagan8th – thanks for the link. I found this info very, very useful.
These are from their “reaper black” line. Not to be mistaken with the original shitty white bones plastic.
The Black line of miniatures are top notch, and take paint very well.
Bones Black gets tacky too. Not that mach/fast, but still.
I have this whole set from the previous Bones KS. I have painted the whole box and not sure what you mean about the Bones Black getting tacky. Not sure what you are using. I prime using Badger Primer, then paint, then seal. I have not seen any issues. Not sure when the last time you tried Bones Black but it is far different especially the USA Bones Black.
It seems the issue is using rattle can primer. Brush or airbrush application is okay.
Looks like a varied and characterful set of minis. Fantastic!
I see Nodwick XD
The sculpts are EXCELLENT (I really like these), bit worried about the comments about the Reaper plastic not taking to primer/paint very well. Are they really that bad (or is there a “secret” to preparing these for painting)?
I’m not sure why people are using primer on their Reaper Bones. I’ve painted 100’s of Bones without using a primer first (just soapy scrubbing them up to banish the release agent) and have never had a problem. When they were first released, half of the appeal of Bones (other than the cheap price) was the idea that you could paint them straight out of the package, no need to primer & no flash to clean up.
Reaper bones “black” is a separate and different material from the old white crappy bones plastic. It paints up really well.
Thanks for the responses all, going to pick up a set for Frostgrave (they could have been made specifically for that game. I see a couple of Pack Mule Soldiers and a Treasure Hunter for sure at first glance)
Ooh their fabulous looking figures for gaming.
Any uk based online stores stocking this? Cannot see it on Element or Wayland.
They can ship from UK at… https://www.reapermini.com/
Not sure if they have that set though, not looked.
They have a UK warehouse. if you order from the main site you can pick UK as your shipping option and it should ship from inside the UK.
Yay, no import tax worry about 🙂
It’s a very nice experience buying from the company directly (good customer service, free mini of the month on orders over £40) but there are also two good online FLGS that sell Reaper. Try “mighty lancer games” and “Snmstuff”, or “wesellreaperminis” on ebay. There is a vast back catalogue and they are particularly good at monsters in Bones plastic, and RPG characters.
