Hasslefree’s Latest WIP Descends into Utter Chaos

Hasslefree Miniatures have revealed the progress they are making on their next fantasy figure, a true master of evil and anarchy that can only be a Chaos Lord.
Even in this WIP we can see that Hasslefree have succeeded in creating a really menacing figure to lead the dark forces. Sure he is using the tired old stance of one foot on a rock, but there is a reason why it gets used a lot and that is because it looks awesome.
Although I do think that in some of the angles shown here it looks like his torso is twisted unnaturally, but I think that's more due to camera angles.
As we can see when comparing it to this earlier WIP image, Hasslefree have made some great progress with the detailing. Adding the Chaos star to the cape is a particularly nice touch and it should look really dramatic when fully painted up.
Tell us your opinion of this Chaos Lord. Are you put off by an unimaginative stance? Or do you think it just looks bad ass?
I agree with you on the odd twist to the torso Sam, but overall this guy looks brilliant! One of the best Hasslefree sculpts I’ve seen.
I would rate this as a great sculpt but I am fed up of ‘heroic’ scaled weapons – that part just looks ridiculous. If this were available with a plausible weapon, I would say 10/10. Of course it could be converted to that.
As for cliched stances – well humans can only walk, stand, sit, kneel, lie down and pose in a finite number of positions, so live with it.
I certainly agree with you on the OTT weapons, they look pretty silly most of the time. I guess this one could possibly be a two-handed weapon, but the way its sculpted it still wouldn’t quite look right. I think you misunderstand what I meant by the pose though- I think he’s got a really awesome pose, full of a leering menace, but I don’t think the execution of the sculpting of the armour around the waist is quite right. I’m mostly just being picky because I think its always worth pointing out what could possibly have been done better,… Read more »
I love the cape !
