Guild Ball Crowdfunder Kicks Off On Kickstarter!
February 21, 2014 by brennon
We've been having a look at Guild Ball a lot over the past few weeks and now the game has hit Kickstarter and is very close to it's target of $30,000 after just one day. Check out some of the teams you can pick up during the campaign...
To kick things off we have the Butchers, Fishermen, Masons and Morticians all getting ready to play ball and win honour for their cause. Each of the teams have awesome artwork and this is hopefully going to translate over to great miniature; two of which can be seen below...
It would have been nice to see a few more actual miniatures compared to renders and artwork but I suppose that could be coming within the next few weeks as this campaign ramps up. They seem to have a great amount of support behind them at any rate and while the cost for one of the teams is fairly high you are getting some detailed sculpts.
I suppose whether or not this is a good investment is up to you. I prefer the fantasy theme and so would probably plump for this but there is also Slaughterball and DreadBall Xtreme coming too.
It's quite the decision!

The timing is a little unfortunate, given the presence of the Dreadball Extreme elephant in the room (elephants in Dreadball – now there’s an idea).
it looks ok but with dreadballs new kickstarter now open its bound to effect it
No doubt Dreadball Extreme will influence this but I like this one better.
Already pledged for it, I never liked the sci-fi sports game that much and the art and setting for guild ball is just the stuff I like
I wish guild ball would show more renders for the miniatures, I have no interest in the game, but would love to pick up the characters for d&d

If you removed the footballs, these miniatures would actually make very good fantasy street gangs.
Love the concept and look, but really need to see some more renders before pledging.
When I first heard about a sports skirmish game, I pictured them playing with more terrain in the way or in the middle of a town/ ruins – was a shame to see an empty field on the demo pics 😉
If you like Guildball or Dreadball, you should give Slaughterball a look as well. The project is looking for funding on Kickstarter right now and while it is kind of the underdog here, the amount of stuff you get for a mere 90$ is astonishing (52 finely sculpted athletes, stretch goals not even included) and the rules are great and available on the kickstarter page.
The KS page now has some images of the Resin Masters for a couple of the team captains. They look amazing.

The playtest is not using terrain whilst model interactions are tested but a full terrain system is to be included in the game. I can’t wait to play mordheim style or gutter ball!
