Gripping Beast Preview The Next Viking Age Legendary Hero

Gripping Beast has been previewing a look at one of their new Legendary Heroes for SAGA: Age Of Vikings. Here we have Owen I, King Of Strathclyde for you to drop into the mix.
He reminds me a lot of the miniature for Thorongil (an alias of Aragorn) that Games Workshop worked on years ago but never put out. He looks very cool though, his horse rearing up as he gets his men ready for battle against the enemy.
There are two versions of the model that you'll get in the set. The first is mounted above whilst the second takes to the field on foot with javelin at the ready to throw at his foes.
If you're looking to build up a Welsh force then this fellow would be a great option. He was a great tactician and cunning leader, so perfect for some ambushes against the Saxons and invading Viking forces threatening your borders.
The sculpt here is by Angel Terol and it looks superb. There is a lot of movement and dynamism in it which is great, perfect for someone leading the charge in a skirmish-based wargame.

He looks very relaxed for a man in battle on the back of a horse that is rearing up. Posing aside (I suspect the rearing horse was a last minute decision at the end) there is so much to love about this sculpt. His ‘tache is awesome and so is that chainmail – it actually looks like chainmail!

it does feel like he should be leaning into the rearing horse a bit or something..
it’s a nice model and will go on my list of things to buy

Ooh nice figure’s the last King of Strathclyde was an Owen named Owain Foel and was probably killed in the battle of Carham in 1018
