Griff Oberwald & A Snarling Rat Ogre Hit The Blood Bowl Pitch
March 10, 2017 by brennon
Forge World has released two new big players for your games of Blood Bowl on the tabletop. First off we have the dashing looking Griff Oberwald who has dropped his famous winged helm to make sure the crowd know who he is...
He looks rather awesome, decked out in the colours of the Reikland Reavers. He is quite the picture of the proper Blood Bowl star with his chiselled jaw, handsome features and stylish hair. It's no wonder the girls go wild when he hits the field.
Forge World made sure to keep all of his vital organs protected but give him enough of a chance to show off too.
Stomping Rat Ogres
Maybe Griff might look a little different if he went up against a Rat Ogre though. The Skavenblight Scramblers have added this monster to their roster.
This Rat Ogre looks like it has seen better days, and where's all the fur gone! I guess when you've been trained underground for a long time and seen a lot of fighting you don't want fur for your enemies to hold onto.
It's neat to see all of their models for Blood Bowl looking like they are in the process of playing the game. So many of the old models were just standing still.
What do you think of this snarling beast and dashing example of Blood Bowl stardom?

Those two are really good.
I’m thinking Judge Dredd. Just look at Griffs shoulder
I like both models but I’d really like to know what’s going on in the Forgeworld paint studio. These two guys are what I would class as “Painting Workshop” level where Forgeworld was always “Painting Masterclass”. What’s happening with the muscles on the Rat Ogre’s arm? Am I supposed to be able to see every brushstroke? Not claiming that I could do better but FW always set such a high standard. Their Masterclass books are filled with works of art.
Griff looks grand, and I like the look of both head options. The rat ogre ………..okay I don’t like nude rats,,, give me some fur .
I put this down to the time I moved the ckicken feed behing Dad’s shed, and uncovered a nest of squirming pink baby mice ……..then Dad’s chooks swarmed all over them and gobbled them up …..(yeah nature is beautiful…..shudders)
I love the Griff model. Not perhaps the most practical, but it really plays up to his playboy image and that humorous side of the game.
But the rat ogre is… Well, I really don’t like it. I even think the pose looks unbalanced rather than dynamic, but it just looks really weird (i.e. bad) without any fur.
Well I usually comment when they are good but I think I have to comment when they are bad, also… I get they were going for a greaser look with the hair but if that was the case they should have put more detail into the hair itself and armour plates attached to the belt don’t look attached to the belt they look wished on. The skaven just looks horrid, it is all flesh no fur it lacks that characteristic skaven look that combined with its odd positioning really makes it look like it isn’t suited to the game. Paint scheme is not doing Griffs model any favours, but its a great mini. Same could almost be said for the rat ogre bar being a great mini, it not even an average one, makes me glad I still have my very old and old metal skaven.
Griff is great but he rat ogre and the new Morg look very average. I much prefer the vanilla ogre.
Sadly, none of the figures are to Forgeworld standard, they look like very average GW models.
I don’t get why all these are forgeworld vs the vanilla ogre?
18 £ seems very motivated for such a masterpeice
Sadly, these don’t get me excited at all. I’d rather convert some plastic minis instead. It is hard to properly combine the humor of BB with something more dark and grimy, and these two prove the point. It might be a matter of taste, but I can’t help compare these to the latest work coming out for 40K and AoS, and they just don’t have that same “must have” appeal. As Tom & Kip from Mayacast would say; it’s a 2 on the Schreiber scale. At least I got some conversion ideas now. 🙂
The Grif model comes with two head options. The other one is helmeted.
They look OK and I would pick them up to replace my original ones but £18 plus postage for a single human – that’s a bit too rich in my mind, especially when you consider the quality and value of that plastic ogre (who definitely looks better than the morg sculpt)
The Rat Ogre is disappointing if I’m being honest. Whether the paint scheme is doing it any favours or not, I’m not a fan of the pose and I don’t understand why he has no fur anywhere (I ever find myself wondering if they forgot to put some on). You’d be better off finding a plastic Rat Orgre from the Isle of blood set; it would look better (you’d hardly need to any conversion) andvit would be cheaper.
he is the quarterback.
Neither are great sculpts, particularly for Forge World, but the rat ogre takes the biscuit. I’m sorry to say it, but the definition just looks a bit too sharp and it comes off as lazy- most GW plastics look better than this model. Every other rat ogre I’ve seen has been better- Jes Goodwin did the originals, though, so that’s a high standard to match!
