Grab The Bull By The Horns With Impondo Zankhomo Zulu War Rules
October 14, 2015 by stvitusdancern
Matakishi's Tea House has released a new rule set for one of my most favorite time periods to model and game, the Zulu Wars.
The new rule set is called Impondo Zankhomo (Horns of the Bull) and it has been created to streamline and enhance rules so any aspiring field commander can take his troops and fight in the style of the Impis of the Zulu and surround an enemy and crush them or be the stalwart Lieutenant and keep your men calm under fire.
In this 60 page book (.pdf) you will get the rules need to play, painting guides and full instructions for building your own Rorke's Drift table. There is some unique mechanics for this game, not only you are using D6 dice, but also a deck of cards that is used to determine activations, red for British and black for Zulus.
Get a face card or an ace and get two or three activations respectively; the joker shows up and the Zulus get reinforcements. How about a little more flavor for your games, they suggest using spent shell casings for ammunition trackers for the British, I think this is a really interesting idea and I know I have .303 British shell casings here that I could use.
For those of you in parts of the world where this might be difficult to obtain, there are always plastic ones you can order for models. I like this period so much I ordered the rule set right away and it is already downloaded ready for my reading enjoyment.
Do you collect rule sets? How many do you actually play?
