Go Witch Hunting In The Old World With Axia’s New Miniatures
October 16, 2024 by brennon
Axia's Giuseppe Chiafele is back on Kickstarter with a brand new project looking to bring some fantastic new miniatures to life that suit the Tales Of The Old World range. This time, the flames are licking at the edge of a bonfire as the Witch Hunters get ready to scour the land.
A New Hunt // Axia
This new set of 28mm miniatures fit into the Low Fantasy and European Medieval theme of classic Warhammer Fantasy in a world where folklore and legends are real and lone warriors face the darkness on the regular! Whilst the first project produced Knights, this second campaign looks to bring hunters of heretics to the tabletop. The Witch Scourgers are on the way.
Witchfinder General // Axia
The miniatures from Axia that are part of this campaign form a warband of twelve miniatures plus there are bonus Stretch Goals associated with the funding level of the campaign. You can get your hands on these miniatures either digitally as STL files so you can print them at home OR physically as resin miniatures.
Witch Hunter // Axia
As someone who is a bit of a fan of Witch Hunters and routinely played them in games of Mordheim, these are bloomin' gorgeous. I think the detailed work is superb and I like that you can see such a nice transition between the concept art and the final miniature.
Torturer // Axia
Flagellant // Axia
All of the miniatures would match up very well to the kinds of characters you'd expect to pop up in a Mordheim-esque warband. You've got your classic Witch Hunters, Flagellants, Zealots and more who are all intent on making sure those unsanctioned wizards meet a grizzly end!
Zealots // Axia
This is by no means all of The Witch Scourgers available to you and more can be seen in the set down below. There are some great variant miniatures in the set that would be perfect for Mordheim as mentioned but also all of the other Indie Dark Fantasy skirmish games out there in the world.
The Witch Scourgers // Axia
If you're interested in learning more about this band of killers and saviours of the common folk (unless you're a witch!) you can dive into Axia's background over on the Kickstarter campaign. Additionally, you can find out about the Stretch Goals that are being unlocked and are yet to come.
Stretch Goals // Axia
As a bonus, you can also dive in and get yourself the set from the previous Kickstarter as well. Add these into the mix and you've already got two fun warbands to use in your Dark Fantasy skirmish games.
The Exiled Knights // Axia
As mentioned earlier, there are options to get these miniatures physically rather than as STL files. They are printed by several different companies around the world depending on where you're from so there are folks helping out in the UK, EU and on the other side of the world in Australia and New Zealand. It's great that Axia are thinking of those who haven't quite jumped into the world of 3D printing just yet.
Will you be picking up these new miniatures and starting a new warband?

Those look nice
Oh man that’s some Empire itch I’m getting from these.
Those look cool, really classic ideas but evolved 👍
Mordheim calls…
These look really nice, but there is one big caveat with this kickstarter.
Axia was involved in a Kickstarter I backed last year (Heresylab & Axia – Citizens of the Old World 5.0). There was some issues with the KS and some tension between Heresylab and Axia.
As far as I can tell, when there was issues with the miniatures, Axia did not get involved to try and solve the issues.
Good to know; I won’t back KS anyway, but that’s another strike against them!
Insta-backed! Also lovecraft2020 – I’m sorry there is still misinformation out there about last year’s campaign but I wrote both HeresyLab and Axia for clarification and what I understand was that Axia was as involved in HeresyLab’s campaign as Grimforge will be in Heresylab’s next venture. He was creative director of the project so his role ended when the funding period ended. Full stop. Same as previous campaigns (for which HeresyLab has no reputation of flawless delivery, let’s be frank!) Everything from Update 11 onwards can’t possibly involve him. It is written LITERALLY on Heresylab’s campaign page – by them!… Read more »
How wonderfully dramatic! 😱
