The Ghar Stomp To War For Gates Of Antares
December 16, 2014 by brennon
This is a preview that popped up on the Warlord Games website prematurely a week or so ago but now it's all nice and official. See what you think of the Ghar Battlesuit renders that are for a previously unseen faction in Beyond the Gates of Antares...
A rather menacing looking walker that has a bit of the bug about it which is usually the case with these villainous races in Sci-Fi games. I like the arm cannon it's sporting with what looks like a multi-barrel death spitter.
More on the Ghar...
"The spiteful, war-like Ghar are small, repulsive creatures with hunched torsos, spindly arms and bow legs – but they are rarely seen out of their huge, armoured battle suits. The Ghar make nothing themselves, but mercilessly exploit their slave labourers to produce whatever they need to pursue their bloody wars."
Certainly an interesting race and it will be cool to see how they progress. You can check out some more 3D work on the Ghar Battlesuits HERE.
What do you think?

Like, – but more likely to use the Total Extinction Ghorial (? spelling) when they finally arrive.
And there’s my favourite GoA mini so far. It’s looking more and more promising.
This treatment of the Ghar is a huge impovement over the initial concepts. I really like the sinsiter, slightly insectoid design, the ridged armour plating, and the little nod to the martian tripods seen in the three legged chassis. The weapon options also really look the part, Definitely a faction that would bear watching, and if anyone wants to see more of them then the creators of Antares have promised that, if the number of members at the Beyond the Gates of Antares facebook page reaches 500, then they will show off a preview of another new unit for the… Read more »
Kinda different. Not sure about that mode of locomotion, or how good those pointy legs will be in soft terrain, but at least it’s original. Any idea how big it’s going to be?
I have found a size comparison image with a Concord Strike Trooper (far right of image, essentially the size of a baseline human in armour), and an Algoryn AI soldier (middle of image).

Given that these particular warsuits will be the typical armour of an actual Ghar soldier (as opposed to any slave forces they might employ), this is a pretty chunky unit. Apparently, larger suits and vehicle anologues are also planned for the Ghar range at a later date.
I hope that helps.
That does help. Thanks @vetruviangeek . Nice size. It won’t be fitting through a door, but I could see it supporting foot soldiers on a battlefield. That Algoryn fellow looks rather nice as well. I have to say I haven’t been all that impressed with any of the mini’s up to now, but after seeing these, I may start giving these a bit of a closer look.
I am glad to be of assistance. I would definitely recommend giving Antares a closer look. I know it isn’t really your preferred genre, but the guys at Warlord are really starting to get into their stride when it comes to new model designs for Antares, and the modified Bolt Action ruleset that underpins everything (available as a Beta version at the Warlord website) is very solid and has a good deal of tactical depth.
I am pretty sure that the Ghar are the type to make their own door, high-energy skeleton key style…
They look nice. I like that they have 3 legs to change up the walker look we often get use to seeing.
I like the walker, but I feel it needs an additional leg, otherwise it feels like it’ll be too clunky/clumsy in motion. If they could show an animation in a stride cycle to indicate how this creature moves, that would really aid me in seeing how this creature interacts with the world. I suspect it is terribly active and constantly moving, but the model doesn’t convey that currently.
Hmm… I’m not particularly impressed. I like the Boromites, but so far nothing in the range has really captured my imagination. The top half of this one is okay, though nothing really special, but I don’t really see how it could walk, and it looks very top heavy.
I’m really looking forward to the full rules set though as I intend to use them to play games of 40K.
I hope for Warlord’s sake the minis to well though – and hope they’ll put out stuff I find more interesting too.
Not really my cuppa, but as I’ve said before i only like aliens that float or slither. Cant stand the look of aliens that have arms and legs at all, too earthlike for me.
Oddly enough the Ghar aren’t actually aliens in the lore, but rather a genetically engineered descendent species of humanity (one of the Panhuman morphs of the background). There aren’t actually any truly alien factions represented in either model form or in the rules as of yet, though apparently Warlord does have some alien factions planned for the future.
Oh awesome! My mistake then! That’s much more believable and more interesting too 🙂
Another Ghar render has gone up on the Antares Facebook page – the Ghar Outcast Slave Drivers

No Warsuits on these chaps, but they are every bit as hunched and ugly in the flesh as their lore describes them as being, and they do a nifty line in rather awesome helmets and… slightly disturbing looking whips.
I actually quite like this one. Has a lot of character.
Another render is up for Antares, and this time it is one for my favourite faction, the Concord. Feast your eyes upon the Concord Drop Troopers:- http://www.warlordgames.com/3d-renders-concord-drop-troops/ I really like these models and the small paragraph of fluff that goes with them. These guys seem to specialise in the ultimate oribital H.A.L.O jump, and have grav chutes to slow their descent upon landing and modified personal energy shielding to deal with the heat of orbital entry, which all sounds rather epic and fitting for what are essentially sci fi paratroopers. I also like the heavier armour variant they wear, and… Read more »
