Gen Con 2020 Cancelled But It’s Going Online!
May 20, 2020 by brennon
Gen Con has announced that they are going to be cancelling their 2020 event and pushing it back to a rescheduled date of August 5th - 8th 2021. This is, again, very sad news but it makes sense in the current climate that they need to keep everyone safe.
From their official press release on the subject...
"Like you, we eagerly anticipate Gen Con every summer as a time of fun, connection, and celebration of our shared love of tabletop gaming and geek culture. We hope that the world will look different by August, but after closely following the development of the COVID-19 outbreak, having discussions with our partners in Indianapolis, and in keeping with guidance from the CDC, we can’t see a clear picture of how soon it will be safe for all of us to gather again. The only responsible choice is to cancel the convention this year."
It makes a lot of sense that they would be doing this, despite the financial hit that it gives the team behind the event. Much like with UK Games Expo and Essen SPIEL, people can decide to roll over their tickets into 2021 but you can also get refunded too.
Gen Con Online
However, despite the cancellation of the main event, the team are going to be running Gen Con Online. This will take place over July 30th through to August 2nd and give you the chance to see a bunch of content that would have been at the event.
Details are still being ironed out for this currently and you will find more information on it HERE. Also, if you want to support Gen Con you can still buy a bunch of their merchandise HERE which will go some way towards helping them through this difficult period.
Were you looking forward to going to Gen Con this year?

Not a particular surprise but this gives those of us who would never get the chance to go an opportunity to experience the online version which could be a lot of fun.
Sounds good seeing what on the new list.
