New Gates Of Antares Boromites Dig Deep With Lasers!
December 9, 2014 by brennon
Beyond The Gates of Antares from Warlord Games has begun it's rather open Beta Test period and you can still grab the rules online. This means armies are beginning to get fleshed out and the Boromites have some more support for the war. Check out their Lavamites, Mag Light Artillery and Work Gang...
These guys are starting to grow on me as a faction whereas they weren't before. I think it was because they looked so strange and quirky with a few suspect sculpts here and there, but after seeing the Work Gang with those rather awesome lasers I think I've warmed to them. I like that all of their equipment is essentially salvaged mining equipment too, it's a neat bit of background.
I like that in addition to all the mining equipment they're also using the animals from within the mines too with those Lavamites!
What do you think of the Boromites?

What with figures being cast to order and then nearly 4.50 a figure I can see people just digging out what 25mm Sci Fi stuff they already have and using that
They… just… aren’t…. very…. good 🙁 Hey, it’s just my opinion but surely these ‘Boromites’ would have been better done as ogre size and less of them maybe? They just seem to suit that direction more. Don’t mean to knock BTGOA as it’s a good concept and idea but projects often live and die on the strength of the minis and these just aren’t doing anything for me at all. Keep up the work though Warlord! I’m sure this game will find its audience. I just know I wont be in it with minis of this design. Shame because I… Read more »
I would generally agree with the Boromites we’d seen in the past but I REALLY like the Work Gang above. I think there’s a bit of a hit and miss going on throughout the range. For example, I feel the same about the Algoryns. It will be interesting to see where it goes though.

The Boromite gang is ok but think how much better it would have been if there were 3 instead of 5! I’d have done it as a leader and 2 brutes with minis the size of ogres, make them ‘ape like’ in stance and made the guns possibly part of an exo skeletal weapons suit ala Elysium. Its just my opinion but i’d have done them a lot differently. Im sure they will appeal to some but I wont be buying. The only things ive liked so far is the first mini they’ve brought out and the other character model.… Read more »
Just not feeling the love on these mini’s. Don’t know about the game.
Just a point of lore pedantry (I try to resist, but I am afraid I am weak) – those aren’t lasers, though as you say, they are a form of adapted mining equipment.
In the game they are called ‘frag borers’, and are a short ranged weapon that causes matter to be ultra compressed into the smallest, highest density state possible with the weapon’s available power source by means of the matter compresion tech that is a major part of the technology base of the factions of the setting.
OK, that is enough lore geekery from me for today. 😉
It’s funny reading the comments above – I actually really like the boromites, and am glad they’re not ‘ogre sized’. The background indicates that a range of different species / types of humans have evolved or been engineered from what we are today, which explains why they’re all roughly the same size. That said, I would agree with much of the tone of the criticism above. I don’t think the boromites are so amazing as to justify the prices being charged, and although the Algoryn are growing on me, again, I don’t see them as being worth the high prices.… Read more »
