Learn More About Games Workshop’s New Contrast Range

Games Workshop is soon going to be releasing their new contrast range of paints. The collection will offer you a range of different paints which allow you to get your army tabletop ready in no time at all.
The Contrast paints work over a new undercoat that they've formulated which comes in either Grey Seer (for darker schemes) and Wraith Bone (for lighter schemes).
They have said that these are key to getting the contrast paints to look good on the model but maybe a traditional white or grey undercoat would work just as well? This would certainly be something to test out to see if you need these undercoats for it to work.

A new website has also been launched which explores all kinds of painting techniques but most importantly how to apply the new contrast paints.
A few examples have been popping up online and I think you'd agree that they do look rather swanky indeed. The final look for models painted in this way do look different from what we're used to but it does get your models basecoated and shaded in double time.
As well as some images showing off the final results the team at Games Workshop also talked with some professional painters about the range and its applications.
I could see this being an interesting option for those that want to blend a range of techniques together, using the old and the new.

Na, I’m good… plus I have no use for paints that need an extra medium to be thinned. Did they ever mention brush cleaning? Need we a solvent for that?
You can use water for brush cleaning. It’s just not thinning well with water, same as Army Painter dip.
A video said that white wasn’t a primer color because the particles in white primer are larger than other colors. I think this is a great way for gamers who don’t like painting to get some color onto their miniatures. Experienced painters (not to mention those who actually *like* painting (: won’t get as much out of these paints. Speed painters already know about zenithal priming followed by glazes and washes. I suspect that experienced painters may be able to get even more out of this.
Plus less time spent on the ‘boring’ bits of a miniature may result in more time to practice techniques 😉

It’s looking good after seeing the video’s it works like a thick ink in many ways which should help doing group/ unit run’s speeding up the process.

To paraphrase a bloke from stratford: A dip by any other name would shade as even Interested to have a play with them, but do wonder if its just gel medium and flow improver I suspect the results you get will be tied to the primer it’s probably got a “self levelling” property to it which will be very smooth on flat surfaces allowing the top coat to conform to contours like a pin wash over gloss does. There’s bound to be someone out there who can get the same result by mixing bits of that stuff.
However … this is ready to use by beginners.
And this being GW it means you can get it at a regular store.
The convenience factor is important.

Yeah they seem to be just dip in a lot more colours.
Not against them, anything that helps painters is good.
They can color match the contrast spray primers to the contrast paints of the same name. Does this mean they will color match their other spray primers as well. Doubt it. It is nice to have but you still pay more for a smaller amount of paint in a pot that has many issues for a product that is already available from several other companies.
Even though I like to paint to a good standard myself i am really looking forward to trying these out. If it speeds up getting through the mountain of plastic i have with limited hobby time they will be great.
