March 16, 2016 by brennon
Despite how the title may sound this is not based on the video game. However, Gale Force Nine have now released more information about their upcoming Tanks World War II Skirmish Game...
Some more on the game and the Panther Vs Sherman Starter Set...
"The Panther vs Sherman Starter Set will be released in April 2016 and includes all the rules, tokens, templates, terrain, dice, as well as two Sherman tanks and one Panther tank. Over the next few months range will expand to include 20 different tanks that you can build and go to war with.
Each individual Tanks Expansion pack will include the appropriate model, with Tank Cards, Equipment and Crew Cards, as well as unique Hero available on in that pack."
To give you a head start on this game the team have put together a collection of links for you to check out to get you started. Here we have the Rulebook, as well as a How to Play Article and finally the Depot which shows off the tanks and their statistics.
Will you be giving this one a go?

Finally some more info about it! This looks interesting. It will appeal to all the treadheads out there, but I could see this being a good introduction to war gaming for younger players as well. It may win over some X-Wing/Attack Wing players as well, especially those who like to customise their models with different paint schemes. It looks like a good way to have quick fun tank battles in an evening, plus it also looks like it will be getting the Organised Play treatment too. Simple, fast tactical games like this are ideal for tournaments, especially where there are… Read more »
Any idea of scale? Would they be equal to the FoW or Bolt Action Minis or a whole different scale?
On the forums, they said 15mm!
That’s what I’d like to know too can’t see any mention of scale anywhere?
More than likely, this will be 15mm, can’t see BF using a larger model scale for this, especially as the game is meant for 3’x3′ tables. The assembly photos on the Tanks site show small models.
GF9/BF show the core set price as $24.99, so looking at a possible £20 base game.
Something other than 15 mm would mean they’d have to create new molds, which isn’t exactly profitable unless you are damned sure you can sell a ton.
Besides… 15 mm is a rather neat scale for this kind of game.
10mm or less would get rather absurd, unless they were sold painted and assembled.
Definitely 1:100 or 15mm as they are obviously using the existing BF plastic tanks and also their own 15mm scenery. Everything else would be a very, very odd business decision
Anyhow, I’m really hoping this is gonna be a Salute release..!
So yes, I’m in a 100%
Will there be rules for calling everyone that’s playing ‘noobs’ and blame everyone but yourself when you get blown up?
There’s the “flip the table” optional rule … always a favourite. 😉
Something to do for the weekend. I’ll give it a try Thanks
the tank models look great.
is it going to be x wing kind ogf game with template and custom dice, someting quick to learn?
ok so rules are ready and free to download, it has a spirit of x wing, looking great cant wait to play it!
I went out and brought a PS4 just to play war thunder…so I have been waiting for some info and then Bang….. we get it all…super. People aready into 15mm must be getting ready for this…..
So that’s me building 15mm tanks now…
Checked the forums just now,
Battlefront have said Tanks will be available at Salute! Also available will be the first wave of Pacific releases for Flames of War and the full Team Yankee range.
Plus you won’t need a big learning curve if you already play X-Wing or Attack wing. I’m sold I’ll get a copy.
Looks cool, I’m game
