Congrats to the winner of our “YouTube 100” prize! 😀
a interesting pod cast guys.
Thanks, @zorg . 😀
Great podcast, though I did start crying when Oriskany said ‘some people have a game store in their basement’. I’M WORKING ON IT, OKAY?! 🙁
I liked the point on FoF that you’re trying to force your opponent to play your rules. We’ve been struggling to get balanced games and maybe that’s one of the reasons that we’re not factoring in.
Oh no, @neves1789 – I’m super-sorry! On a serious note, this is a problem we hear about from so many gamers of every genre. So when @stvitusdancern started talking about New Years Resolutions, this naturally came up. Although I do admit, I have been somewhat breaking my resolution. I’ve stumbled across some Megablox HALO figures in a gas station of all places and started buying them. Yeah, they’re just “Lego” guys, but that are ridiculously articulated (12 pivoting joints in a figure 2″ tall – not counting the weapons). So I really have to get back on my DAK 28mm… Read more »
Yeah resolutions are great to stay motivated. I’m keeping a painting journal now just to stay on top of things, it’s pretty neat. Also every wargaming item I own is put into a little database which is at times very intimidating but at other times rewarding when you get to put items into the painted section. Funny that you mention those pre-painted figures as I’ve recently also bought pre-painted terrain (the Battlesystems stuff). It fills the need for having terrain without going through the whole process of building and painting and not having that free time to paint actual mini’s.… Read more »
Awesome, @neves1789 – I hope you like Darkstar. Definitely more of a sci-fi theme, obviously. But we’re running a game every weekend if you’d ever like to drop in for a minute to watch, or even give a try one of these days.
Ooh war-gaming and prizes! The SitRep is getting fancy.
We do our best! Actually, I think @stvitusdancern and @grimwolfuk were handling the prizes for subscriptions / followers.
Is this podcast in the iPhone Podcasts
App? I would like to add it to my favourites List but can’t seem to find it…
It’s on Podbean which has an app for android and iPhone.
This should be it :

Here is the link to the official iTunes feed for the sitrep podcast.

Awesome! Thanks @aztecjaguar and @limburger ! Get the word out there and help the SitRep grow! 😀
Yes it is on Apple iTunes or music or whatever they call it these days.
Thanks for the Link @grimwolfuk – so I am now all good to go and listen to Sitrep on the train to work!
This is the first one I’ve got around to listening to (First half so far) and finding it very enjoyable and interesting
Awesome, @torros – thanks very much! 😀
great podcast, just to note US forces did get the Huey infantry combat teams in Stripes for Team Yankee to match everyone else, still not blackhawks though.
Awesome, @bloodstrike . Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, like I was saying in the podcast, I feel that most of the “corrections” (if you want to call them that) that need to be made in Team Yankee from a “historical” 1980s perspective are either made, or in the process of being made. Including T-64s instead of T-72s, check. Including other NATO and Warsaw Pact armies, check. Making sure the T-64 is better than the the T-72, even though the T-72 came out afterwards, check. Switching “Fate of a Nation” to a Team Yankee prequel rather than a Flames of… Read more »
Great Podcast guys. If you’re interested in 6mm Modern Wargaming some Australian guys are working on a set of rules called “Up the Guts”. They had asked for play testers but I think that period may be over. I know about a dozen serving Australian Defence Force members played the game at HeroCon this year and seemed to like it. (An event run by the Australian Defence Force Wargaming Association). From the 1st Armoured Regiment Facebook page. “Members of 1st Armoured Regiment took part in HEROCON 18 this weekend in Brisbane. 12 members participated in numerous tabletop games, including the… Read more »
That’s a great tip, @elessar2590 – There are TONS of 6mm modern miniatures out there, from GHQ if nothing else – they’ve been putting out great 6mm minis in Modern era since the 1960s. Of course I’m sure they could be used with a new rules set.
And I may be biased, but any wargame endorsed by actual veterans is going to get extra consideration from me.
I’m definitely going to have to look into this, and maybe propose it to be featured on a future podcast of the SitRep. 😀 Thanks again!
Just a little reminder folk, the next episode will be recorded this week coming so if you have something you might want us to look at please drop us a message via our facebook page or on here.
@oriskany You gives should have a look at the newish 1/144 Timecast modern stuff
http://www.timecastmodels.co.uk/cold_war_84/coldwar84.html
Finished listening to the whole thing and very enjoyable. I don’t know lot about modern stuff but I shall be back for more
I subscribed as well
We have a facebook page and can be found on youtube as well more content incoming very soon the first of which will be a series by Oriskany on the Arab/Israeli War starting this week on youtube.

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/c/SITREPPodcast
ah thanks 🙂
I don’t have facebook, but YouTube I can do.
Thanks very much, @torros – those 10mm Cold War minis look great. Yeah, like @grimwolfuk says, we’re trying out several different formats and subject matters. I’ll be trying to focus on anything post- 1945, which is actually a pretty thick slice of history when you think of it. So I guess it depends onw hat people think of when they say “modern.” Not 100% sure when the first episode of Ops Center will be ready, but it is in progress. I’m hoping for sometime this coming week. Thanks very much, @limburger . Every little bit helps us expand our start.… Read more »
I’m looking forward to your video series 😀
I heard the mention of ‘show off force’ in the podcast and was reminded of the use of Starfighters by the Dutch during the train hostage at ‘de Punt’. The sonic boom didn’t eliminate the attackers, but it did help the assault teams entering both the train and school.
Modern would be 1919 onwards for me. I know some WW2 and some second half 20th century stuff but nothing in depth
@limburger – Starfighters as in F-104 Starfighters? Awesome,I never knew it had been used in an anti-terrorist role (distinguishing this from anti-insurgency role). Cool deal, @torros . I can see how some people may choose the end of World War I as the beginning of “modern.” Hell, I know plenty of writers who call either the American Civil War or Crimean War as the first “modern” war. Put most simply, I chose this benchmark not based on technological parameters (much of today’s military technology can readily trace its roots back through World War II), but more from the perspective of… Read more »
Not sure if this is a true story or not … but apparently during the Iranian Embassy siege in London, the SAS asked the Government to redirect the flightpaths of planes arriving at Heathrow. This additional noise helped drown out the noise of the SAS installing surviellance devices prior to the storming of the Embassy Building.
Interestingly, the BBC News website did not mention the off-duty SAS soldier helping storm that hotel compound in Kenya last week. I heard about this first in your podcast!
That’s Gianna @stvitusdancern with the breaking news! 😀 😀 😀
yep F-104 … the only jets we had at the time.
YouTube even has a video.
https://youtu.be/cCEOxLw1Yos?t=94
(at around 1:40 in you see the jets doing their sonic boom)
Commentary is in Dutch.
These are holdovers from the old 1960s “interceptor” days, when planners and analysts feared that the future of air combat would dominated only by high speed, high-altitude strategic bombers with nuclear payloads. So everyone stopped designing “slow and low” maneuverable fighters, no guns, only air-to-air missiles, with an emphasis on speed, high-altitude performance, and endurance (range). Intercept Russian nuclear bombers while still over the North Pole, was the name of the game. Of course, aerial operations like Vietnam and 1973 Yom Kippur showed this was wrong, so everyone started making the switch back. But in the meantime, God-knows how many… Read more »
This blog has stuff about TY in 6 and 3mm
http://tinytanks3mm.blogspot.com/search/label/Team%20Yankee
I would maybe suggest Fistful of Tows as an alternative
Yeah you set those rules once. I still have it somewhere. Definitely a massive document. 😀 But certainly a well-put together rules set.
QRF do 15mm T80’s
https://quickreactionforce.co.uk/product-category/qrf/qrf-qrf-1900-onwards-postwar-1945/qrf-qrf-1900-onwards-postwar-1945-1990-soviet/qrf-qrf-1900-onwards-postwar-1945-1990-soviet-soviet-armour/
Okay, are all these models 15mm @torros ? They definitely look great. I just wish these sites would be a little more clear about the scales, I think they assume we’re familiar with the company, i.e., “oh, QRF is a 15mm company. Here are all our products.”
If so, it might be time to breakmy New Years Resolution and pick up some of these T-80s, now to choose whether I want with or without reactive armor.
Yeah there 15mm
Epic! 😀
@oriskany good luck with your plans to cut down your lead mountain, hope your discipline works, never has for me.
Gianna good plan on the half hour to hour hobby, been doing it in the dark nights on the kitchen counter whilst half watching documentaries on the you-tube, got through a lot of the base painting and building pre-the weekend finishing off.
Plus found can do Cruel Seas boats at an evening , poss two sessions mainly as waiting for base coats and wash to dry.
Thanks, @bobcockayne – I’ll admit at the moment my DAK Bolt Action army is a little stuck, probably 50-60% done (all built, primed, base painted, and 2-3 colors put on). I gotta get that project moving again. Detail painting, flesh, weapons, equipment, wash and dry brush. I won’t go too crazy on them.
Thank you @oriskany and @stvitusdancern for the fascinating podcast.
Regarding the discussion about a model for the Hotel in Black Hawk Down – you may want to check out this building from Multiverse Gaming:
https://www.multiversegamingterrain.com/olympus-building-p-26.html
Certainly glad you liked it, @aztecjaguar, we usually have a little more banter going when all four members of the team are on (Gianna, myself, Christ, Ralph. and sometimes even a guest).
That’s an epic looking hotel in the link! I like how the roof even looks like the “H” you might see on a helicopter landing pad. Perfect for a Blackhawk Down style helicopter landing assault! 😀
