The Fu Dogs Of Watchful I Studios Grow In Size
December 4, 2015 by brennon
Watchful I Studios have shown off some updated previews of their Fu Dogs. The general consensus amongst the community was that they needed to make them bigger so that's what they've done! They have also added some command models to the upcoming unit...
Above you can see the big leader model for the Fu Dogs with his halberd held high. I think making the creatures bigger, these massive guardians of the palace, gives them an imposing look on the tabletop. I can't wait to see what armies people make out of these models.
I think the unit as a whole looks neat and its good to see that they have tweaked a few of the poses for the Fu Dogs so that they aren't all the same. it's good to see them prowling around looking menacing.
What do you think of these Fu Dogs?

Even if I just don’t get it why they’re called Fu Dogs – I’ll probably will buy those lions. I just have to check the size 🙂
They’re not lions. They’re Fu dogs. Supernatural asian stone temple guardians. They have flowy beards and tails, they come in pairs, usually as a couple, sometimes with a puppy and/or playing with a pearl for prosperity. Lions do not have beards nor do they have that kind of tail. I should know, I have two on my right arm…
I’m with Tuskar on this one … these look like lions … despite the “flowing tails and beards” … I am also with him on the general approval of the overall aesthetic of the model. Fu Dogs in most of their traditional depictions anyway have wider faces and look less like a big cat and more canine. Just do a google search of Fu Dog and see for yourself. Again though, not ranting or flaming, or disparaging the model, nor the company. It is good to be a mini gamer these days … loads of cool minis being produced all… Read more »
Call them what you want, they look cool.
So I just was miss leaded by the picture of Fu Dogs I had in my own mind. But nonetheless those will be beautiful miniatures.
The snout looks a little too elongated for a traditional Fu dog, but Foo dog it is nontheless.
Very nice minis either way.
I like these Fu Dogs. 🙂 The head and body, if you look carefully, does actually look dog-like (some sort of Pitbull Terrier maybe). I think it’s the mane and the goatee that give it the cat-like appearance.
I hope the legs of the riders are not casted to the body of the “lion”. Would be way more easy to make Thunderlions for my Space Marine project 🙂
