Footsore Miniatures Show Off Their Sutton Hoo Warrior
February 16, 2018 by brennon
Footsore Miniatures last week showed off their awesome looking Sutton Hoo Warrior which will be available in the near future.
This fellow is based on the iconic helmet and mask that was found in the ship burial at Sutton Hoo. Whilst he could obviously fight for an Anglo-Saxon/Dane force there's no reason he couldn't be at the head of your Viking force too.
I like the idea of using him as some kind of semi-legendary figure in your games. Add in that level of mythology to your games and use him as a mysterious warrior who appears on the tabletop, seeking revenge for some long forgotten grudge perhaps.
I reckon you could get quite the good Draugr look to this fellow, striding forth from his barrow.
What do you think of him?

Very nice.
Those people from FootSore seem to know what they´re doing. And the wonderful paintjob done on this model makes the miniature all the more delightful.
Nice.
I want that
Proper Saxon bad-ass right there, ought to be warlord of an invasion force in Dux Britanniarum or something, first off the boat, first to ram his spear through some poor Romano-Briton coast guard. Be tempted to do a winter base, nice thick frost on the ground, some subtle drops of blood in the fresh snow. Yes, he’s the king, but ode Hengist has no qualms in turning you into a human shish-kebab!
Hopefully we will get to see some of his friends too
Like it, not least that his spear is FANCY!
Very nice, I need him for my Saxons. Who is the sculptor? Bill?
not for this, the sculpt is courtesy of Stavros Zouliatis.
Bill is working on a Sutton Hoo helmeted figure to be a special release for reaching 2500 likes on facepage…. Bill is easily distracted, they’re over 3000 now and he’s “working on it”
To be fair to Mr Thornhill though he didn’t like the original pose and went back and resculpted the dolly again from the start, so he’ll get there.
Bill has always been easily distracted so no change there. I’ll let him off as he sculpts such nice figures, eventually!
I’ll have to look out for more of Stavros’s work aswell.
I think there may be more coming through footsore, if you remember last year they were after more sculptors. Paul hicks is already doing normans and I know of one other hush hush project that’s started but not sure who the sculptor is
I can confirm it isn’t me
Shame. 6mm versions would be interesting to see
I’m really good at unrecognisable blobs of green putty, but I don’t think they would sell in today’s Teeny Tiny Fighting Men ™ (© @avernos) market
there’s a phrase I’ve not heard in a long time, … a long time.
I remember in the distant past Bill showing me a 15mm Ashigaru green that never saw the light of day.
that’s not what I’ve seen, but then it didn’t come via Bill. I can’t say any more because it’s not been announced yet and I don’t want to over step myself
