Footsore Miniatures & Games Showcase A Troll Druid
October 3, 2019 by avernos
Footsore Miniatures & Games have recently expanded their base ranges and opened a showcase section that contains figures that normally wouldn't have a home among their usual historic fare. Oldhammer style evil elves rub shoulders with day-walking vampires and their shotgun-wielding companions. The idea behind the range is to allow some of the people who sculpt for them to find an outlet for the weird and wonderful that would adorn their tables without finding a home otherwise, as well as to offer more boutique pieces from companies that wouldn't have a distributor in the country.
The latest offering comes from Jody Seigel, who has been sculpting some of Imbrian Miniatures beautiful fantasy creatures recently. His own work is a monstrous Troll Shaman. Even while crouching this beast is 50 mm tall, so it gives you an idea of the size of him.
The bark armour has beautiful flowing metalwork adorning it that gives it a truly beautiful savage feel.
The thing that impresses me the most about it is the head of the miniature. It has such a uniquely different look to it from other trolls, in fantasy and games, that you are left wondering whether that is some form of horned mask fashioned from another dead creature, or is it actually it's face? The description of the troll doesn't help either way.
The sorcerous powers of the troll druids have sustained them since the the forest's oldest trees were but saplings. Their mastery of shamanism and beast magic allows them to summon strange and hitherto unknown creatures to fight for them.
This feral fellow could easily be a friend or a foe in countless tabletop or even roleplaying games, and I can see many people tracking one down to simply paint for the pleasure of it. I just wouldn't advise tracking it down alone in a forest mind you.
If you go down to the woods to-day you could be in for a big surprise.
I’m a sucker for trolls but this is something else! It’s really frickin weird and I love it!
That’s an interesting piece! The strange face/mask does it give it a bit of weird mystery
