The Stone Realm Kickstarter from Fireforge Games is now live. You'll be able to snap up the miniatures from their new plastic 28mm Dwarf sets which are designed for their Forgotten World collection and could be used across the board in myriad Fantasy wargames.

At the heart of this Kickstarter are those new hard plastic sets which will allow you to build the bulk of a new Dwarven force to use on the tabletop. All of the miniatures are going to be multi-part too allowing you to put them together in a variety of poses and with an array of weapons and accessories.

Not only do their plastic sets come with lots of weapon options that are spot-on for Dwarves but they also have a mix of male and female Dwarves too. The style of their armour has something of the Dwarven about it with big block shields and heavy plates but it also feels like they've added a little something extra too.

I think the look of them skews towards the 15th and 16th Century in its design too. There are plenty of slashed sleeves on display here and the weapons themselves look like they would fit this period too. You also see this in the design of their ranged units like the Arquebusiers and Crossbowmen.

It's a different look for a Dwarven army but it certainly ticks a few boxes for me. I'm sure that some people will be dismayed at the lack of geometric shapes but I think it's neat that we've got an alternative-looking army.
Never fear though as their cavalry is decidedly very Dwarven with some mountain-based mounts!

I can see a lot of people picking up the Rambukk Riders at the very least. They are all posed nicely and the riders look like they are positioned well too. More often than not a lot of Dwarf cavalry can look a little awkward thanks to their smaller legs! I like that you've got the choice of both lance and pistol if you want to mix things up.
Stone Realm Characters
We also had a peek at some of the characters they have lined up. The plastic sets will come with the option to make these Command figures...

Who could say no to those fabulous feathers? I think these would look great painted up in a very flamboyant style. Bring in lots of bright poppy colours and then mix that in with some grim and dirty armour!
You will also be able to make a couple of resin characters too. You have the Stone General who comes with an array of weapons...

...and also the Runelaerde. Both miniatures come mounted and on foot and could be used as your martial and spellcaster heroes in-game.

This is a good selection of miniatures to get that new Dwarf army sorted. I like the look of them with their unique armour and weapons whilst still retaining that classic Dwarf quality. The folks at Fireforge have done a good job with the beards too which is always a plus.
Are you intrigued by these new Dwarves?

I love the pose on the Runelord. “Whatcha gonna do huh?”
Was excited for these.
However the price is just too much for a box of only 12 miniatures. At the numbers I would want to get them at, its just not worth it. Huge mistake on their part to go that route.
I will stick with Oathmark and mantic dwarves for the my games.
I’m usually the one screaming “too much!” but with this? 60€ for three boxes seems fair. Not cheap but fair IMHO.
It could be argued that its a fair deal at retail. However, with shipping, it will be nearly 85-90 US. That is not a great deal at all.
Lets get real, we are talking very generic dwarves. Sure the have lots of options, but at the end of the day you only end up using one set of options.
As a kickstarter, utter failure. Which is pretty obvious by the fact they still haven’t reached their goal.
Well for once I’m not at the receiving end on shipping because its a European KS which leaves it in the realm of “reasonable”.
That Runelaerde has a potato!
Great looking figures from recovering lost sections of the stronghold from them green skins an ratmen.
My bugbear is that, other than the Ram mounts, they aren’t terribly “Dwarven”. The armor looks like human armor, and the weapons look like normal midevil weapons. In many ways they just seem like human warriors that they scaled down in the vertical dimension.
I thought female dwarves had beards too?
Would have preferred they go for an option that isn’t already we served with models, like they did with their recent peasants and undead medieval peasants.
Afraid ? not going to back the Kickstarter
I was set on purchasing these, but when I went to actually back the project I just couldn’t do it. I thought it’d be awesome to have a unit of Dwarven Sword Sisters in Medieval plate armour, but the lack of variety in the heads just means the unit would be terribly boring no matter how I built it. They all just look the same, and there’s only two varieties of female torso as well. And to top it off, they aren’t even that competitively priced. Even GW dwarves were cheaper when they discontinued them at 16 for £20, or… Read more »
