FireForge Games Forgotten World Kickstarter Teases Orcs & Dwarves
October 3, 2018 by brennon
FireForge Games' Forgotten World Kickstarter continues to power on, looking like it will hit its end goal and make both the Human & Undead factions of their Fantasy game a reality.
Their main aim is to make sure that their Starter Set and accompanying plastic models make it to fruition.
As you can see they have a lot of plastic models in the pipeline and if you look back through both their campaign and our coverage of what they have achieved so far you'll see that their final product is actually very good indeed.
Whether the game behind it is any good, well, that's anyone's guess as they haven't made any of the rules available to view beforehand. However, you could very easily use all of these models for different games.
One thing they have revealed however is their new Fantasy races for this world.
New Factions
The first faction to be revealed were the Orcs.
This is a teaser of what they've been working on but it looks like a neat take on these green-skinned warriors. They aren't quite as ape-like as the Games Workshop models and instead look more like the warriors you might have found in an Elder Scrolls game.
I think there is a place for both in the wargaming sphere but I much prefer these as you can do a lot more with them.
We also have the Dwarves!
I see a lot more in common with the style of Dwarves and growing Fabled Realms world here, which would be a perfect place to use these models of FireForge's Forgotten World isn't quite for you. They look like they've embraced that Late-Medieval style we would have associated with the Empire in Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
Are you tempted to back this campaign and see if you can help them unlock some new races and characters?

I think that this Kickstarter has disappointed a lot of backers for not smashing through a bunch of stretch-goals in a CmoN-esque fashion, but I’ll personally be pretty happy just to see it fund – really want to get my hands on those great-looking Northmen sculpts, and really liking the direction they’ve taken with the Dwarves too, even if it seems likely we’ll only get to see them at some later date.
I had hoped it would do better as well, but FireForge are giving some free stuff away now if it funds which is good of them.
Those look really good.
Wow that a big box of models the new dwarfs figures Look great as well
Oh wow. Those dwarves look great. (I normaly play orcs)
They should have started with the Orcs and dwarves in the starterbox.
Love the style of them.
Mantic and GW do better undead so that is a shame.
Hope next kickstarter will be orcs and dwarves.
Dunno, when it comes to zombies the GW sprues are definitely showing their age (they are pretty awful by todays standards). Mantic Ghouls are ace, but the skellies lose out to GW. The Fireforge peasant zombies would be perfect for games of Mordhiem (but again this still isn’t a massively played game these days). I do think (based on the renders) they went with the strongest lines of minis in looks and usability, but then again the KS didn’t seem to generate massive interest (so maybe you’re right that Orcs and Dwarves might have been better).
Bit wary of this one as it looks like Fireforge are starting to over promise to try and get the KS some momentum. These days backs are spoiled with KS schemes like those done by CMON with everything already produced, rules already done, videos of playthroughs with production minis available at the start (ie backers aren’t funding development, it’s just a pre-order shop). So I think because the rules aren’t ready for a playthrough, and the production minis aren’t available to view that backers just aren’t backing (or perhaps more simply there aren’t 60% KS “exclusive” minis in the scheme… Read more »
As long as Oathmark is planning orcs I will never look at an orc by another maker.
Talked to Nick from Northstar at the Warlord open day and yes orcs are planed for Oathmark both cavalry and foot.
Yep! I love their goblins and I imagine the orcs will be that same classic fantasy style.
I swore I’d never back another kickstarter, but I’m in.
Great campaign to back, and a chance to grab historical sets at a discount too. More fantasy sets from these historical companies will be awesome.
