Fireforge Games Explores The Sengoku Jidai period
February 14, 2022 by avernos
Fireforge Games have started previewing some prototypes for a new range of hard plastic feudal Japan kits that they plan to take to Kickstarter in March.
Fireforge Games // Samurai Cavalry
The range is planned to have seven multi-part kits that will allow you to field a full force on the tabletop for the Sengoku Jidai period. The figures will be 28mm heroic to match Fireforge's current figure range of figures. Fireforge have been asking people to comment on the prototype sculpts and let them know how many parts to assemble our future plastic Samurai warriors? Separate arms, torsos, legs, heads, scabbards (with katana inside or not like on the model below) and other accessories like sashimono.
Fireforge Games Samurai
Already the prototypes are looking very good and a range of plastics will be very welcome as Clash of Katanas is on its way this year as well. The samurai stance and options look very good already before they refine the details on the sculpts for the Kickstarter campaign. I'll be interested to see what options they finally go with for the warriors in the end. Will we see a range of weapons for the samurai or will they be more prosaic in the load out?
Prototype Ashiguru
Despite what Tom Cruise would have you believe gunpowder is great and massively embraced by the Japanese and so we have a ranged Ashiguru priming the pan there.
With seven kits coming including monks they should have everything you require @lloyd to field some Samurai on the tabletop, the only question is which game you plan to use them with
The answer is Clash of Katanas

Just in time for Clash of Katanas and Test of Honour. I hope they bring out more previews though.
not sure if they’ll show much more before the Kickstarter, although now is the time to fire suggestions at them before they get that distance
They are fabulous looking figures with plenty of details for painter’s.
Those two look really good.
Those look like some very nice sculpts, and monks to come as well… I’m definitely interested. Wonder what else might be in the works; would love to see some plastic bandits and Koreans.
This is very intriguing! I’ve already got a fair number of feudal Japanese figures from a variety of other manufacturers (Footsore, Warlord, Perry, etc.), but I like the look of these. One MAJOR gap in the existing ranges is unarmoured samurai/ronin, so I’m really hoping to see a box of those among the seven they’ve announced. Armoured figures are of little use to those of us primarily interested in skirmish games inspired by classic jidai geki (Seven Samurai, Lone Wolf and Cub, Musashi, Yojimbo, etc.), since the genre is, with a few notable exceptions, mostly concerned with street fights and… Read more »
I can’t wait for this to start !
I’m very happy to see another range of plastic Samurai and Ashigaru I can’t wait to see the other box sets . I love FireForge’s other plastic sets and there attention to detail is outstanding. ?? cheers
Tempted, I would have rather they did the 13th century samurai to complement their mongols, but I suppose more Sengoku is okay, that said I am rather reluctant to back a KS out of the EU since the shipping from there to the US is ghastly.
These look amazing!
