Final New Age Of Sigmar Cities Of Sigmar Heroes Revealed
August 4, 2023 by brennon
After leaks appeared online this week, it hasn't taken Games Workshop long to crack out the lovely high-definition images of the last of their Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Cities Of Sigmar miniatures. These are the final few pieces of the puzzle, for now, before the Cities Of Sigmar come to The Mortal Realms.

We start with the Freeguild Cavalier Marshal. These fellows ride into battle alongside their fellow Cavaliers and smash through the enemy ranks atop their steeds. They are at once adept in combat but also keen strategists, able to see the direction the battle is flowing and bring help to where it is needed.
I do like the miniature and it has plenty going for it. It reminds me a lot of classic Warhammer art, especially in the pose of the horse. I do think it's quite busy though and you're most certainly going to be getting paint where you don't want it painting this.
The second of the big miniatures is Pontifex Zenestra, Matriarch Of The Great Wheel. She is one of the Cults Unberogen (a good nod to Sigmar's past) and commands incredible respect amongst her followers, even with the flaming skeleton on the back of her palanquin.

When someone says that a literal god has blessed them with power and you know for a fact that they exist, I don't think many people are going to be ignoring her words. She comes on an impressively impractical palanquin as mentioned above which is peak Warhammer. Again, this might be quite a busy miniature to try and paint but I do like the finished product and I like all the little nudges and hints to stories that you want to uncover about Pontifex Zenestra.
Heroes Of The Crusades
But wait, that's not all when it comes to the characters you can use to lead your Freeguild into battle for the Cities Of Sigmar. You've also got the Command Corps.

This set features a whole cast of colourful characters that you're going to find handy when it comes to starting one of the great Crusades under the banner of the God-King. The fellow in the heavy armour is your Arch-Knight who works as a menacing close-combat character who can be armed with different weapons and such depending on your whims. He stands next to the Whisperblade (top right) who is your deadly assassin, sneaking through the shadows and taking out targets that threaten Sigmar's dominance.
Moving down to the bottom right, we have the Soul Shepard and the Corpus Somni who watch over those souls who cannot be saved and make sure that they don't get turned into anything unnatural. If you're relatively saveable then we have the War Surgeon at the bottom complete with all manner of saws and drills for making sure legs come off and you don't bleed to death. I get the sense that if you do bleed out, they tend to say it's your fault.
Last but not least, we have the Great Herald and the Mascot Gargoylian (far left) which are symbols of the Cities Of Sigmar and push those around them to greater feats of heroics. A good option for those looking to ensure that the troops keep fighting.
Keep Shooting!
Last but not least, we have the Ironweld Great Cannon which is something of a mainstay amongst the human forces both in The Old World and The Mortal Realms. I would probably have a word with that engineer though. Don't drink and fire!

Much like with smaller rifles used by other units, there is a focus on this being a defensive structure as well as a powerful weapon. To that end, the cannon has a massive shield on the front to take enemy fire and has been properly bolted into the ground so that it doesn't buck back and kill its crew. An impressive kit of kit.
New Battletome & Army Set
These miniatures are going to be covered in the upcoming Order Battletome: Cities Of Sigmar.

This can be found first in the new Army Set...

...which is coming soon. More details on the Cities Of Sigmar will be coming in the near future so watch this space if this army has tickled your fancy. I have a friend who is very into the look of the army as a whole, even with a few niggles here and there. I sense a new opponent in Age Of Sigmar on the horizon.

Fabulous looking detailed figures.
meh….
A few hits with the Marshal and some in the Command Corps but, overall, this entire faction is a big no!
Can’t wait to see the kitbashed Guard Army from these kits.
Looks way too much like 40k to be honest
I’ve been playing 40k since 3rd edition and I cannot think of a single army this looks like. Do you mean the army has a very Imperial Guard design feel to it? if you do I fully agree with you, even commented to that effect the design is very much like an answer to “how can we shoehorn Imperial Guard into AoS?” Aesthetically however it looks nothing like any 40k army and tbh I think this is one of the more interesting concepts they’ve done, has a very Richard the Lionheart Crusade meets Oliver Cromwell Roundheads feel to it and… Read more »
I mean if we’re measuring, I’ve been playing since 1st edition… Howevr I didn’t say it looked like a specific 40k army, I said it looks too much like 40k. Delve into the deeper lore, away from the battlefield and at things like the Administratum, the Ecclesiarchy, the Inquisition, Rogue Traders and that side of the setting; that’s what this looks like. It looks closer to Grimdark future than fantasy. You could use any of those models in an Inquisitorial warband, either in 40k or in Kill Team without doing any conversion work
Well its taken 3 editions but they’ve finally managed to get the Astra Militarum into AoS, Space Marines, Aeldari, T’au and now the Guard wonder what’ll be next….
on another note I do actually like the look of the models, I think the defensive concept behind them is an interesting one that we’ve not seen before, I’d be intrigued to buy a small force and test out this “Castilite/Castelite/Castalite” Formation they keep banging on about.
And they put the Kharadron Overlords in 40k…
