Fighting Comes To The Shire With New Sourcebook
July 8, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop is also working to develop the world of Middle-earth soon with pre-orders going live for the new Scouring Of The Shire sourcebook.
Get Stuck Into Middle-earth At Store.OnTableTop
The new Sourcebook focuses in on additional unit entries and scenarios for those who are looking to play out historic battles from The Shire the like Battle of Greenfields and the closing engagements of The Third Age. To this end, a band of Ruffians are going to be made available from Forge World to act as Sharkey's occupying force.
The set looks diverse until you see that there are actually a fair amount of duplicate sculpts. Sure, with the few different paint schemes you'd be able to make it look less repetitive but I think it would have been nice to see a few more options. It would have been cool to just have a few head and weapon options added into the mix, especially for the fellow with the whip and the one who has a bandaged eye.
Ah well, maybe we'll get some more miniatures further down the line.
Classic Sculpts Return
As well as the new models, a few returning oldies have made it into their collection like Bullroarer Took himself.
He will be able to get stuck into a scrap alongside Golfimbul. Maybe you'll be able to re-create the classic battle that we mentioned at Greenfields where Bullroarer knocked off Golfimbul's head and smacked it down a rabbit hole, inventing the game of golf at the same time!
There is a lot to be excited about for fans of Middle-earth and it's good to see the design team working to develop aspects of Middle-earth that we've not really seen explored before.
Will you be picking up this new book?

Those are really nice and I am happy to see The Scouring of Shire brought to tabletop.
great armed towns folk. and golfimbul.
Hmm. are these Perry sculpts?
Yep the Scouring of the Shire came out in 04 or 05 when the Perry’s were still the go to LOTR sculptors.
Has anyone seen @dracs since this news is out? Or did he set up camp at GW Headquarters waiting for the first shipment?
Day ten… Dinner was left over scraps from the back of Bugmans Bar. Still no sign of the hobbitses.
Is this the part where we must decide either to intervene or send a pizza your way? 😉
Time for a classic:

… Do you know how long I spent looking for the miniature of Bandobras Took? It was so hard to find someone selling that rare metal mini. And now they’re just re-releasing him and all I had to do was wait… GARRRRR
also, the reason there are so many duplicates among the Ruffians is that they are a re-release too, but I think previously they were only in small metal blister sets. It looks like they’re now being released as a full warband.
@dracs yep same with the hobbits they only came out with 4 poses just like the Militia, Archers and Sheriffs.
You can always mix in Wildmen of Dunland but those are even harder to find.
@dracs been there done that and I’ll let you borrow the t-shirt.
After all this waiting they will have to let you do a lets play with your Hobbit’is for this.
Hmm, maybe next time Cad from 4Ground is over I can persuade him to bring his Rohan…
