Female Assault Trooper Gets Geared Up From Icarus Miniatures
May 18, 2016 by brennon
Icarus Miniatures are continuing to build upon their Sci-Fi world with a look at the sculpting preview for the Female Assault Trooper who looks great...
She is heavily armoured with plenty of body armour, packs and such containing ammo with a realistic hairstyle for a soldier too - short, so it doesn't get in the way. I think she looks ace!
The sculpt shows that you don't need to go down the boob-plate angle to show off that she's a female instead going for a slightly slimmer figure indicating her gender. Hopefully we'll see a full unit of these soldiers for the future of the range.
What do you think?

I rather like her. I would consider using her for Warpath/Deadzone with either the Rebs or the Corporation.
she look good 28mm?
They’re actually true scale 35mm, but they will fit with the likes of Infinity, Deadzone etc. (most minis advertised as 28mm a closer to 35mm tall or even taller :D)
good to know.
shall we try saying breast plate, that has beeb used for such items since , oh lets say , foreever , not boob plate shall we!
The problem with that @synthetic is that a breast plate is an historical, ungendered term for a component of a suit of plate armour – it is a plate of armour that protects the ‘breast’ in the sense of an antiquated term for the chest or thorax of either a man or woman. It is the same meaning as employed in the saying ‘music hath charms to sooth the savage breast’, a phrase that does not specifically refer to the calming effects of music on women only. Conversely, the deliberately mocking term ‘boob-plate’ specifically references the trend to create a… Read more »
DUDE , all you had to do was press the thumbs up button to say yeah , its a sexist statement , not paste your dissertation from Uni, but I appreciate you agreeing.
I apologies for being unclear – the terms have differing meanings, and so the admittedly rather crude term ‘boob-plate’ is justifiable in its use in this instance in that it specifically conveys the problematic elements of a misogynistic trope in armour design as represent in fantasy and sci fi artwork and miniatures. The phrase ‘breast plate’ does not convey that meaning in and of itself, and so ironically would need to be qualified and defined in its use (likely in the verbose style you find amusing here) every time this topic is discussed in order to express why the design… Read more »
@vetruviangeek u wot? 🙂
I have breasts.
Whether I have boobs, is down to how polite you are 😉
I like that model a great deal, and I think it would be a strong addition to almost any relatively near future war game setting. A good, believable combat pose. Practical, functional gear that you can actually see a soldier choosing to wear while out in the field, and all the while the model is obviously depicting a woman soldier as is evident at a glance, and easily achieved without resorting to any hint of fan service objectification. As Brennon says, this is yet more proof that good, non-sexist female miniatures can be created with a modicum of effort and… Read more »
Hear hear! It also manages to make a very attractive miniature. Not attractive meaning ‘sexy’ or sexist but cool, feminine and characterful.
The anime style face is a bigger indicator of her gender rather than the “slender” figure, which could also indicate elves or anime boys. And as to the “boob plate”, who knows what’s hidden behind the assault rifle. But I do agree that the sculpt is nice without being overtly sexist.
Really good mini.
@bennon
I second your comments in every respect, she looks realistically female and more of this would be welcome indeed.
I’d love to have some seperate female heads just like her’s, preferably plastic or resin to convert more of my Imperial Guard into female troops..
Although I will also have to confess to liking b…s I’m afraid.
A lot.
@warzan
No need to be worried now, honest!
The sculpts so far from Icarus have been pretty sweet. The only one that i didn’t care for was the LMG trooper. This one is a definite hit though.
Heads on these will be separate so should be usable for hobby purposes elsewhere. Whilst I have no problem with boobs it gets a big plus from me for having proper armour and there’s pouches as well! 🙂
Did some people eat dictionaries for breakfast this morning I’ve got a headache now!
