Four Expansion Packs Announced For RuneWars Miniatures Game
January 31, 2017 by brennon
RuneWars is just around the corner and with that Fantasy Flight Games has previewed four of the Expansion Packs which are on the way for your armies of Daqan and Waiqar.
First up we have the Daqan Infantry Command which offers up a Champion, Musician and Standard to lead from the front ranks. As well as the models you'll also get a variety of new cards to use in battle and some upgrades too.
Supporting your infantry you will also have the Oathsworn Cavalry.
Introduced as part of the main set for the game this collection will allow you to either upgrade an existing unit and add more to it or simply field smaller units in order to add more flexibility to your army.
The Undead
Rising from their graves the Waiqar are not to be outdone. They too are looking to the command elements of their force with the Waiqar Infantry Command.
What's cool with these sets is that not only do you get the melee fighters but both Infantry Command elements also include the option for Spellcasters too. It's neat to see the wizards stuck in there with the rest of the men, ready to augment them with arcane energy when the time is right.
Supporting your undead force you will also be able to pick up the Reanimated Archers.
Much like with the Cavalry for Daqan this unit could be used to make up a larger force from the core set or a separate unit to harry your enemies from different angles. You'll have to decide tactically what is going to make for the best approach!
Will you be diving into RuneWars and if so which side will you pick?

Those do look good and with those added in game is looking more and more tempting.
Was genuinely excite when this was announced, but it now seems there will only be 2 factions for a while at least. I am sure it will be FFGs normal quality, but I think the release model really shows a lack of understanding of what is needed to make a good tabletop game.
They do have Orcs, Dwarves, ‘Chaos’ and Elves in the mix for the world of Terrinoth so let’s hope that they get to them sooner rather than later.
The main thing that might stiff them as well is how hard it is to get rid of some FFG stuff right now. Destiny has been a bit of a mess. Have to hope things go smoothly this time around.
On the FFG forum you can see a Organized Play store poste that also shows the Uthuk Yllan and Latari Elves so they will be probably released soon (https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/241221-four-factions-on-organized-play-store-poster/) and each of these boxes will cost 29,95$.
@Brennon may revisit when they do, but to me a tabletop game really need 5+ factions on release and a way to get in without the starter box, ie if you want another force, until I see that its a barrier I am not willing to cross.
Nice spot @iceeagle85 I will have a look
Four factions at launch with starters, thats what’s needed for a mini game to launch.
2 factions worked for launching X Wing. This game appears to borrow much from that system including the launch model.
Two factions is a major turn-off for me too. It’s one thing to have Rebels and Imperial as the two factions, it’s another to have a mass fantasy battle game with only humans and undead to play.
The difference is Star Wars has enough appeal and following for only 2 factions to work. It wouldn’t be expected. Whereas with Fantasy lines there are loads of varieties that appeal to different people. Not everyone likes Knights and Undead sadly.
On the fence with this, still need to know the price and will the able be covered in cards and chit, like a lot of their games? Don’t like messy tables.
Tempted
But 30US$ for each expansion is, well, not cheap. Maybe worth it, but not that far away from the main player.
Beside of that, I think they need to improve their website. When selling miniatures, I want to see better images of them
I hope everyone realizes these will not be prepainted like X-Wing
How much I wonder?
29,95$ for each of these expansion packs and 99,95$ for the core set.
Did a quick conversion to GBP it’s about £23… I suppose you would get about 15 infantry for that
I suspect the RRP here will be higher than that. Since the pound crashed against the dollar in the summer FFG’s prices convert at or close to 1:1.
It seems the have changed the price or it was an error, they are now listed costing 24,95$.
And what you get is either 8 Undead Archers, 4 Human Knights or Command Box with musician, standard bearer, champion and magician + cards and dial.
