Expand Tomb King & Bretonnian Armies In The Old World
February 26, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop are looking to expand your Warhammer: The Old World armies, well at least the Tomb King and Bretonnian ones, with a new set of pre-orders this week. You'll be able to get your hands on new plastic miniatures and returning metal ones for both of the core armies that relaunched The Old World.

One of the big miniatures from the initial plastic set is now going to be available separately. You can get your hands on the towering Necrolith Bone Dragon who can either have a Tomb King or Liche Priest mounted on his back. If you're seeking a fairly hard-hitting monster for your army, focusing on the power of your general, this might be one to scoop up and slot into your force.
Those wanting to boost the core of their Tomb Kings army can also start to pre-order their basic units. Skeleton Warriors and Skeleton Archers are going to be available separate from the launch box so you've got another way to start securing your core infantry for your armies.

As well as the returning plastic miniatures here, you'll also be able to get your hands on chariots and cavalry. The miniatures that you see here aren't the only ones popping up so if you'd like to see the full complement of miniatures coming to the Games Workshop webstore, make sure to check out the links throughout to the Warhammer Community blog.
More metal miniatures are also coming to support these growing Old World armies.

You'll be able to get the likes of Prince Apophas or the Necrotect or perhaps a Tomb King mounted in the back of a chariot. All of these are going to be returning to their webstore alongside a range of older miniatures that have been remastered in resin. More complicated and weighty miniatures like the Screaming Skull Catapult are going to be coming back in Forge World Resin for you to tinker with.
Expand Your Bretonnian Army
As well as the Tomb Kings, the Bretonnians are also taking to the battlefield in greater numbers. Leading the way are the Knights Of The Realm On Foot who were teased a few months ago.
Knights Of The Realm On Foot // Warhammer: The Old World
This set comes with enough miniatures to make a regiment of twenty Knights Of The Realm or you can split them into two regiments of ten as there are enough command components to enable you to do so. You can then arm them with either a halberd or a sword and shield if you prefer. Hold the line or break the enemy's spirit!
Some returning plastic miniatures are also on the way with the Knights Of The Realm mounted on horseback thundering forth.

The Men At Arms aren't out just yet but you can get your hands on this set of twelve plastic miniatures. Much like with the Knights Of The Realm above, you can either make a larger unit or split them up into two units of six. Get a bunch of lance formations at the ready and start setting up some well-thought-out charges.
When it comes to metal miniatures, there are some returning classics including the Questing Knights that you see here. A nice, characterful unit for your army but I imagine they might end up costing you quite a bit if some of the other sets are anything to go by.

Squires are also going to be returning in metal plus two classic Prophetesses Of The Lady miniatures as well. One of my favourites from the Bretonnian range is going to be popping up as well with The Green Knight charging out of the forest to vanquish the enemies of The Lady.
The Green Knight // Warhammer: The Old World
This fellow is still an awesome miniature after all these years and I could see a lot of folks snapping up miniatures like him that they might have missed out on back in the day. It's good to see that Games Workshop aren't hanging around too much when it comes to The Old World. The miniatures are coming even if they're focused on the Bretonnians and the Tomb Kings at the moment.
I still think it's quite hard for people to get the most out of The Old World right now, especially if they are starting from scratch. Unless you want to play the two armies above, you're pretty much relying on eBay and the like for your miniatures.
Fingers crossed that we don't have to wait long for the Orcs & Goblins and the Dwarfs to pop up.
Drop your thoughts below on the returning miniatures...

The green knight looks like a walking ad for some kind of mints XD
Ride down your bad breath with minty fresh green knight gem!
I’m certainly interested in the Green Knight, especially if it’s in metal and the price is right.
It is metal. Price will probably be dear, but then again this is one of the most epic miniatures they’ve ever made.
I am surprised to see the questing knights coming back, don’t know why they didn’t just replace them with the foot knights. Two reasons, first the Questing Knights lore says they give up all their worldly wealth and go on a quest for the grail. Horses are a symbol of wealth and a knight in foot says “poor knight” far better than one on a horse. Also, two handed sword. On Horse Back. Not sure if anyone here can ride but if you can, you would know why that’s a stupid idea that’s going to end with the rider having… Read more »
Those swords look more like long/broad swords that usually could be wielded with one or two hands. Also, a lot of two handed swords, like the Scottish claymore aren’t nearly as heavy as many people realize. With enough training some people could build up the strength and skill to use it one handed from horseback, even though other weapons might have been a better choice.
Trust me, they’re two handed weapons and follow the rules for 2h weapons. Been a Bret player for a while now.
For a faction that is supposed to be all about superior cavalry, those other weapons that might be a better choice would be the weapons of choice to ensure the primacy of their cavalry was maintained
as a unit, they feel as though they were included for meta reasons, like “every faction must have a two handed weapon unit”, rather than because they actually make any sort of sense
Also, gonna have to get pedantic; forget what you learned from D&D. A Longsword is a two handed sword from the late medieval period, early renaissance era. It can be lifted one handed but cannot be wielded effectively one handed due to its blade and hilt length. A broadsword is a 1 handed, basket hilt sword favoured by Scottish Highlander during the 17th and 18th centuries and co-existed with and was a similar size to the rapier. It was designed to be wielded one handed and couldn’t really be wielded two handed due to the hilt length and design
Do we know if the foot knights are plastic or not?
Yes, the foot knights of the realm are a plastic kit
What’s the point of releasing new stuff GW/Nomad, when you can’t even keep the necessities in stock?
Main rulebook hasn’t been in stock in North America since … launch day. Out of stock, everywhere.
Well, except on eBay through scalping resellers.
Hard pass on all of this nonsense.
What is Nomad in this context?
It’s some sort of slur against GW. Don’t know where it comes from
