Empress Miniatures Hit The River With Their PBR Preview
April 10, 2020 by brennon
Empress Miniatures have been sharing some more of what they have in the works for their Vietnam range. They are gearing up to include some stylish looking PBR options into your US army in the near future.
If you're heading up the rivers of Vietnam then you need a heavily armed boat to cover your troops as they head off into the jungle in search of the enemy. This 28mm kit will come with some big ol' 50 Cals onboard plus the M60 and Grenade Launcher. Why not have all the big guns?
Interestingly, PBR pilots were usually fiercely attached to their boats and they would go to great lengths to keep them operational and they even took the time to personalise them when they could. Included in this kit you'll get a surfboard and ghetto blaster for good measure!
If you watched one of the recent Grand Tour episodes you'll remember that Clarkson took a PBR as his craft of choice. He talked about how they would have to go at incredibly high speeds in order to maintain their manoeuvrability and of course it helped when you were looking to avoid sniper fire from the depths of the jungle!
These are some fun little additions into the wider Empress Miniatures collection and it's good to see them (hopefully) going into production sooner rather than later. I could see some fun scenarios being set up on the tabletop with these involved.
Empress Miniatures also mentioned that they are getting some crew made to resemble the characters from Apocalypse Now so watch out for previews on that front too!
What do you make of this PBR?

Really nice model, might have to grab myself one of these if my Vietnam project ever properly takes off.
This period brings awkward memories, so I don’t war-game it, still I believe I’d like to get one and convert it into a 40k Astra Munitorum (IG) craft. It reminds me of a Ciaphas Cane story and I think it would make a cool scenario game. BTW, machine guns have a limitation that they have great difficulty with defenders in defilade positions. It was US military doctrine to pair grenade launchers with machine guns to provide an ability to target enemy seeking cover in defilade positions. As for the overall armament, I’m thinking weight/balance limitations. I have a friend Robbie… Read more »
A Great looking boat to get to work with.
I have a few of these in 15mm from another game company. So I’m excited to see I can soon get a PBR in 28mm!
I’ll diffinetly use the Empress 28mm boat in a scenario I’ll be running this summer that is inspired by the SITREP Podcast Team.
I can’t wait! ??
Nice kit! I wanted to get a PBR and throw some catachans on there and 40k-ify it. Never got round to it though.
