Empress Show Off Work On Dashing Iron Duke Highlanders
May 3, 2019 by brennon
Empress Miniatures has been sculpting away on a lot of Vietnam soldiers right now but they also have these Iron Duke Highlanders waiting in the wings, looking very dashing indeed!
I won't pretend to know where these fellows fit into history but they certainly look rather awesome. I immediately considered how awesome they would be as stand-in miniatures for someone building an Empire army from The Old World.
The weapons might not quite fit with the Fantasy Empire force but I think that with a bit of tweaking these would be fantastic for such a purpose. Of course, they are also nicely detailed and befitting of that Black Powder period of history with all of their regalia.
There are quite a few of them waiting in the wings from the folks at Empress Miniatures so if these have caught your eye make sure to watch out for the full release further down the line.
What do you make of these rather flamboyant highlanders?

Those are nice.
Paul Hicks sculpts, I believe. Iron Duke are actually a different company to Empress, Empress do the retail side for Iron Duke. These are the 93rd Highlanders and assuming Iron Duke haven’t changed the era they are producing models for, these are for the Indian Mutiny that took place in the 1850s. The Iron Duke website has a serious amount of info about that particular conflict.
These look to be for India or Afghanistan in the Victorian Era although the weird hats/helmet are throwing me off a bit. Normally the Highlanders wore a bonnet with the plume but these look like either hats or helmets with a plume.
The Rifles are Percussion Cap so could be used for 1840-1871 (the Snider Breech Loader came in in 66 but Snider’s look a lot like Percussion Cap Rifles at this scale) then again if you’re on the Northwest Frontier new Rifles might not have come for a while.
Nice.
